Front parking sensors?
Hi guys,
Had my f11 535d msport for about six weeks now and am really enjoying it. One thing however is bugging me. I have the surround view package which is great but is there any way to have it so that the front parking sensors are automatically turned on at low speed rather than having to go into reverse first. I'm just finding it annoying that they aren't on when I pull into my garage when returning home. Cheers guys. |

No, no way to change. I find this very annoying too. I am still not used to the fact that i need to turn this on when pulling in somewhere.
I suppose if they were always on, then they would be going off in traffic lights and bumper to bumper traffic? |

This is how it works on the X5 as well. I had a Lexus that had the front sensors on all of the time and it was worse because it went off anytime the bumper got dirty or someone walked in front of the car. The way Lexus implemented it, you could only turn the entire system (front and back) off in this scenario. The BMW system works better IMO.

That's the way it should work. You certainly do not want this thing going, say in bumper to bumper traffic, etc. It will be a nuisance! So, it makes sense for one to turn the front sensors on manually.

At first this seemed odd to me too, that the front sensors didn't activate at low speed unless you reverse or hit the P button, but after a while it makes sense. You really don't need them when parking forward unless the spot is really tight. Now when I drive a Mercedes, it is annoying because it is always beeping. As I pull into my garage and the car senses the garage door sides, any parking spot that I pull into forwards as the car detects the cars on either side until I straighten out, and at stoplights as people walk in front of the car. I prefer the BMW way now. But everyone has their preferences.

Thanks guys,
I must say I prefer the Mercedes system, you just have to remember to keep your distance slightly when in heavy traffic, but I'm sure I'll get used to it as I did in my Audi rs6. |

BMW system is superior, when I need it I tap a button otherwise the majority of "false alarms" that interrupt music or conversation are avoided.

Drove a friends Mercedes for a couple days a while back and it drove me nuts that I couldnt turn it off in many situations. The best compromise though would be if it were a option in Idrive. Then each could set it the way they wanted.

Agreed. Although I wasn't happy with pushing a button on my F10 to activate the front sensors, I recalled when I was in Asia in a MB and that sensor would go off every few seconds, when a car was too close, or a dog ran by your car at a light, or a cyclist scooter or motorbike came to close. I like it BMWs way, and am getting used to it. Its there when you need it but not in your face.
