Hi All,
i am new here, love the forum from what i have read.. I hope someone can inform me if i have an issue or just a break in scenario
picked up my new baby saturday.. car had 7 miles on it. when i accelerate from a standstill there is a hesitation like a dead spot for about a second or so and then the car just takes off.. is this a learning break in period?????? I asked the genius at the dealership, he says that its normal and when the car does break in it will be much more responsive..
any insight would be very much appreciated
thanks

Most probably so. My 2016 550 was a demo with 2500 miles on it, so there is no hesitation. Love the car.

I picked up my 2016 550ix in late February of this year and my car did exhibit some slight lag in comfort mode accelerating from a standstill. I don't notice any lag now that the car is broken in. Putting the car in Sport/Sport+ mode definitely will help reduce the lag.

Congrats my friend welcome to forum
Don't worry you should have little control button next to the shifter just push it twice in sport mode or sport+ say no more hesitation I promise you.

A sprint booster will help, and IMO is the single best bang per buck mods you can install.

I'm on my fourth F10 and they ALL had hesitation off the line, even in Sport+ mode (God forbid using Comfort mode). Sometimes not so bad, sometimes downright irritating...and in the case of my 535 it was dangerously laggy sometimes. 1.5 seconds of lag can sometimes seem like an eternity when pulling into fast traffic...

I've never driven any other car that didn't go when you pressed the gas pedal. It's one of the worst qualities of the F10.

1.5 seconds of lag ?
I must say I have no idea how you managed to get that kind of lag.

My experience is that cars with automatic transmission especially when not in sport or sport+ mode will have a bit of hesitation (nowhere close to 1.5 sec. in my opinion). With manual transmission or when shifting your own gears with automatic, being in correct RPM range for conditions, that's all it takes to move this car fast off the line, or merging in traffic.

It sometimes feels like a lot longer when you have a car barreling down on you and you want to merge into his lane.

I don't notice any lag in Sport/Sport+ mode. I find the accelerator very responsive in both those modes making it sometimes difficult to get a more leisurely takeoff.

Exactly my experience, even with 535.
That's why I'm honestly shocked by 1.5 sec. claim, and that's accross 4 different F10s too.

It only happens when you're trying to fully kick down, pedal to the floor and only off the line. It's horrible. Dead spot is exactly the way I would describe it, a pause waiting for the downshift, then it catches and 445 flipping horses all GO. Not as fun as that sounds, almost dangerous. My 335 did not do this. No other car I've ever had did this. A slight pause for downshift is fairly common but less these days with modern transmissions, but this is like a dead spot waiting for that downshift. $85k car with all that power, and they couldn't get this right? BMW? It's insane and infuriating, at times.

I agree with this, kickdown is lethargic, especially in Comfort mode. Test drove a 650 and noticed the same behavior. You're right about when the power does come on it's like the solid rocket boosters lit on the space shuttle giving you WAY TOO MUCH power causing all kinds of fun as you warp speed right up someones bumper. BMW failed on the transmission programming on this engine. I think they thought that the engine has so much torque and power that they could get away with a more comfort oriented transmission programming. I didn't notice quite the kickdown lag when I test drove the 528, transmission programming was much better suited to that engine.

If I need the power right now, I usually use the paddles to downshift manually which allows me to have better control of the power.

That's just the thing, without manual transmission or manually shifting, it's asking too much from "regular" automatic transmission, to give you all the power all the time on demand. Some sort of software processing will have to be done in the background to determine what's the ideal gear/RPM given the input, several downshifts often needed. That'll of course cause a bit of delay, and Sport and Sport+ mode are helping reduce it no doubt. I argued all along that (rare) manual transmission equipped F10 drives significantly different, even though 0-60 time is ever so slightly slower. Manual transmission with DHP, putting a car in Sport/Sport+ mode, no lag whatsoever, be it from standstill or merging.

My 535 was downright dangerous. They fixed some of the lag via a software update at some point. It was enough of a problem that an update was released specifically to deal with it. It has to do with drive by wire mixed with the transmission seeking.

It's much better now, and I have a sprint booster, but it isn't virtually instantaneous like almost every other car or motorcycle I've ever had.
