No 5 Series exclusivity!!!
There are no differences in the looks of the 520d and 530d!! Both have the 30d's chrome grills and both have the 30d's twin exhaust! Whats happening?! A 30k car should stand out from a 40k car surely! For this reason, the 5 series is not on the list to be our next car.
Why have BMW done this? I hope they do not do this for the new 3 Series later this year or that is off the list too!

Maybe they did it to make 520d owners feel better?
Those who care...

... why do you want to tell others what you drive. For me, what I drive is with me, so I've de-badged. If I had £8K more, I would go for the 530, but I will still de-badge that.

If you're looking for exclusivity than you need to step to a whole other level. 100k cars in LA are a dime a dozen. If you're looking for a car to make a statement, you're looking in the wrong place. Most people could give a &h*t.

Our E90 330d gets more attention from people who know their cars. Because a driver in a 740d saw our 330d's chrome grills - he gave us a little drag race. If that had been a 320, he wouldn't of bothered. A Z4 30i saw our 330d's twin exhausts on the entrance to motorway so we had a drag race up to X MPH. If 520d's are getting this attention then they will be mullered and this makes BMW look slow, bad and boring. This means it puts people off racing 6cylinder or more BMW's because they could be tedious 2.0L 4 pots when de badged - which all of them are because they desperately want to be something they aren't. People who buy 20d's aren't usually interested in having fun anyway so they will be getting unwanted attention. It also makes the jobs of burglars harder because they may be after a 530 and when they see a de-badged 520, they would think it's a 530 and then be bitterly disappointed when they come to start it up!

Everyone's entitled to their opinion but on the whole this forum represents enthusiasts who appreciate the dynamics/asthetics of whatever version of the F10 they can afford/choose to buy. I don't think your views represent the avg. f10 owner so maybe it's best if you don't but one!

This guy is the reason I debagged my 5, or better yet the same reason I don't have 12" tattooed on my forehead
Check your ego and please don't let this go the way of the "3" board |

WOW, go to bed for 7 hours and the whole world goes to hell!
I wont go so far as to blast this guy, there is no doubt a BMW has a component of status (varying levels) in all of us. However, I agree fully with most comments and I think Gatoman summed it up best, if your looking to make a statement, the models your looking at, although nice, are not statement makers. From your location I take it your in England, and Europe is no LA or USA for that matter, BMW's can get out of reach for most people but my advice (for what its worth) is to identify what it is you want in a car then see if BMW makes a car that matches those wants, if its in your budget then go for it, if you have change left over that you have already commited to a purchase then shoot higher, but if your pockets are turned out and you stomach is grumbling ... you know the rest of the story ...

'3' board still like this? I had a '3' long time ago, went to forum couple times and dont bother going in again as it was not 'informative'. I didn't tought it still like it was used to be.
The C class forum in MBworld is way more civilized. But funny thing I found on an E class forum, someone think E interior/exterior is better than an S class. Also MBtex vinyl is better than Leather, WTF? But there are also tons of good information. |
