Snow in Alps end of Oct / beginning of Nov?
I'm finalizing an ED itinerary for the very end of October and into the beginning of November. It's to pick up a friend's 650 vert. I know that significant snow usually doesn't fall until December/January, so I've got a trip planned on mostly higher elevation Alpine roads in Austria, Italy and France.
The 650 will have 20-inch summer tires, so traction in even a bit of snow will be almost non-existent. Can anyone opine on whether we'll be ok that time of the year? |

Living in Switzerland, Alpine passes and roads basically can pick up snow as of end of Summer. The passes were closed (for a brief period) once already this year, they re-opened as soon as the snow is gone or roads are cleared. You will need to check conditions before you head off to the mountains to see if any snow fall predicted and check on road and pass conditions. Oct/Nov can be snowy already....so better be prepared with winter tyres and chains. If you are lucky, you find no snow. Here's a good site to check on weather etc.
