License plates are getting a tech makeover
License plates are getting a tech makeover.
Flaunt your alma mater, your favorite sports team, or your city pride. From in-vehicle infotainment to driver-assist systems, digital technology can be seen in just about every component of modern automobiles — except the license plate. But if one Silicon Valley startup has its way, even those stamped metal plates will soon go digital as well. Rplates are now on sale in California, and will be available in Arizona, Texas, and Florida in the near future. Boston said Reviver is working to legalize them in another nine states by the end of the year. https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science...why-ncna867251 |

that’s dope. someone should develop projector headlamps that project your favorite shows onto the road so that you can watch your shows without taking your eyes off the road.

Sure; a programmable digital plate with a wireless connection, nothing whatsoever could go wrong with that...
Not like anyone has ever been able to hack a wireless controlled system or anything... |

Of course, like the digital license plates in this thread, its unlikely the technology would be used for an ostensibly entertainment purpose like you mentioned (mostly in jest, I gather). But the ability to show warning messages and other important information is there. |

Yeah... absolutely not. Just another expensive thing to replace when it breaks or gets broken.
That doesn't even get close to all the issues with privacy based on the oh yeah if your car gets stolen then we can track it because that's totally the only time we will track you. No criminal would ever think of removing the plates either. "Licence plates have been around for 125 years" Why do you think they have barely changed then genius? |

Imagine all the teenage drivers who will back into small posts and mailbox poles
That would have meant bending the metal plate back a bit , now it'll be to the tune of $700 |
