@xdeedubbx: yes, I'm selling perfumes too, now my wife's running it

@all: Long was too busy, and the kit with a set of Brembo for another car arrived late at my forwarder in CA. I had to pay extra freight of $1k+ and delay my event 1 week to get the car mod. We only had 3 days to install and wrap the car, some guys at the shop had to work at 11pm.

I didnt want the M badge on sides, but it's my friend's car, he wanted to keep it .

It's not about the money - it's about it being fake. He should've bought the M Sport Package. That is an accessory designed for the F10 non-M5. What he did was diminish the value of the M brand by putting lipstick on a pig.

And yes, I know that BMW cars are expensive around the world. I used to live in Europe. But I earned enough money to drive whatever I wanted in both the UK and Germany, and didn't need to resort to making my car something it wasn't.
Just another angry M5 owner. He thought he actually paid for something, other than a failed oil pump, fake sound and a vibrating steering wheel.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
The M5 is the pig And it needs a lot of lipstick. There is not much brand value left. It's not like you paid a lot, why do you think you deserve a 458 or something?

Actually... my oil pump is fine. My car wasn't affected. I have no steering vibration. And I pulled the fuse for the active sound. The difference isn't *that* noticeable.

Oh, and I used to own a 458. But after that car and the nightmare it was owning I will never own another Ferrari.

So before you go accusing me of hating, get your facts straight.

I'm not familiar with taxation in other countries. Why is it so high? Seems ridiculous to me. People in the US complain that cars are already expensive. Unfortunately for us that also means a lot of brands strip their cars of features that are available in Europe to lower costs. (Or they're afraid of litigation.) We also have silly regulations, like different headlight beam patterns and amber reflectors that spoil the look of most modern cars.

I appreciate someone aspiring to have something they cannot attain for whatever reason, like outrageous taxes. But for those that do have something it diminishes/cheapens the privilege. I liken it to watches. I've saved and purchased some nice watches over the years. When I see someone buying a fake Rolex or other brand I get upset. They get the "cachet" of wearing it without actually having supported the brand. It's unfair. I spent thousands, you spent a hundred. Why should you get the same "respect" that I do?

It's the same with cars. I've seen pictures online of people converting Civics to Bugattis, Saturns to Ferraris, etc. It's a cheap way to get the look of something without actually paying for it.

Sadly though nobody will bother reading this and will continue flaming me for having an opinion.
wdimagineer, if you get flamed then perhaps it's because you might be seen as flaming another F10 owner. Cool your jets in those instances (that's a pun at my expense) because what another bloke does to his ride is highly unlikely to have an immediate and direct impact on you personally, is it?

That said, the balanced perspective that you have just portrayed here has earned you some of my respect. I guess the difference between this post and others (that I can recall reading) is that on this occassion you have brought a spirited discussion to the table yet communicated solid opinions with a high degree of courtesy to ALL readers of this forum (and haven't torched another person in the process).

BMW's are well-engineered and constructed. Quality comes at a price. I'm sure everyone knows that you get what you pay for.

That's exactly the point, but you believe you are actually getting something with a real M5 but what you are actually getting is BMW-modded 5 series on a shoestring budget. This is actually worst than a regular 5 because there is not the commensurated testing - resulting in unanticipated problems.
You as a consumer want to believe you are getting something, but how much are getting when you pay for a branded item, the M has turned out to be exactly this, short term-ism sacrificing the brand while consumers like you realise only after something bad has happened.

So stop believing 'you get what you pay for' applies in 100% of circumstances, it may be a good rule of thumb, but with the M5.. sorry.

Props for the M5 look without the M5 problems.

Grimlock, you're disrespecting this guy when he's an F10 owner like the rest of us. Do we really want / need to stoop to slamming the other person or their pride and joy. Come on guys. Keep the bar high and show some courtesy.

He came in bashing pretend M5s .. what do you expect?

In the past, this may have been rountine.. but alas thank Bmw for this eco-M5, can't even assert it's authority over regular 5s.

It's still more than just a BMW-modded 5 series! It drives differently and this is the most important factor. Have you ever driven an M car? It's hard to tell why people do M5 conversions. Most likely to pretend like this is a real M5 and not because owner likes the way it looks. I'm with M5 owners on this one unless the M5 badges removed.

Why do you care if someone got a M5 kit that looks like but is not an actual M5?
Because it detracts from the worth of your car without having paid the price you paid? Then you are exactly the customer BMW wants, politely put.
Just because there is a video of a german guy telling you how 'special' "M" is etc. etc. .. it's called marketing.

OP

Is your money and your car and looks good. There isnt a rule book to tell people how to mod there car. All that matters is that you like it. If people like it they like it if they dont they can kick rocks. Some people can make a big deal out of nothing..

And the owner has probably paid just as much for his car as people in the US have to pay for their M5's.

My F10 had a new price (incl options) of approximately USD 130.000,-

So comments regarding earning enough to buy a M5 coming from M5 owners in countries with no tax really doesn't bother me... I've paid the same for my F10 as they have paid for their M5's (I'd love to live in a country where I could have bought an M5 instead).

people have the right to feel how they feel and voice that opinion regardless if it's not popular. with that said i would relocate if my f10 cost me 130,000 USD or drive a prius.

Most countries that have high taxes also have high average annual incomes. Correct me if I'm wrong?
