Debating on what size wheels

Guys,

I think Im going with the CEC C881 in Matte Black/Machined--

My debate is 20 inch or 22 inch?

Ive always been the go big or go home type....

With 22's I would go with 245/30/22 F and 285/25/22 R --

22 inch tires cost just as much as 20's so I thought why not --

Any opinions?

A rep from CEC photoshopped the wheels on a GT for me, but mine is Sport and tinted, so it will look different, but gives me an idea.

Hopefully, the roads around where you drive are in perfect condition or you'll be spending lots of money on replacing wheels and tires. Where I live, neither would be a good choice. I opted for the stock wheels (18") so that they'd survive a typical drive where you dodge potholes and uneven road transitions. If the tire wall is that short, there's no protection for the rim and while they may look good (beauty is in the eye of the beholder), they aren't very practical. Great on a track, lousy on the road, at least the first time you bend, break, or otherwise mess up an expensive rim and probably a tire as well. There's a reason why BMW has disclaimers all throughout their documentation warning of the dangers of low profile tires and wheels. This isn't unique to BMW, it's a physical reality...a taller tire is much more likely to survive an impact on a less than perfect road without damage than a rubber band like one you'd have on 22". Pay your money, and take your chances, but don't complain when you need to replace things.

In 2004 I had staggered 20's on my E46 M3 Convertible, then I had 19's on my 2008 535i, then I had 19's on my E90 M3 Sedan and 20's on my 335i Vert, before all these cars, I had 24's on my 2WD F150 back in 2003 (305/35/24) -- I've always had low profile tires -- on all the cars listed I have had to buy 2 replacement tires due to road hazards.

But still not sure what I want to do on the GT since its a short term lease.

Based on your history definitely go 22 without a doubt. I would look for wheels that have already been on GT (not photoshop) though so can actually see whether you like it.

I got the stock 20s though so i wouldn't have to upgrade but sometimes I think about it - nah.

Yeah just been down the same road as you lately. I went for 20", a few reason why really.

Weight. I had 22's on my Q7 and they were HUGE. 20" is manageable

Road noise. again on my Q7 the 20" wheels were ok but the 22's were real noisy.

Depending on the wheel style they look too big. dont get me wrong some 22's look awesome

I want to lower my car with H&R springs and running 20's they will sit just right.

Roads where I live are rubbish and wanted to keep as much tyre depth as possible.

My 22's are actually lighter than my stock 19's.

Those came out very nice - a good fit and style on the GT. Great choice.

I realize items for sale should be in another location but given the discussion here re 20 and 22 inch wheels just checking if any interest in a set of 19 inch winter wheels and tires from my 550 GT that I have today decided to sell as I am moving away from winter extremes and will no longer need them.

They are (4) ASA GT1 wheels (8x19) with Bridgestone Blizzak LM60 245/45x19 tires mounted. Purchased from Tire Rack in December 2010 will sell for half price including light-weight racing jack for easy wheel swap.
