Dust in engine?

I changed the valve cover & gasket two days ago. When mechanic removed the valve cover i saw the oily dust had been accumulated where the gasket was sitting. He tried to remove them with cloth but i saw some of the dust going in the engine but he told me it wouldn’t cause any problem. Is that right? Should i be worried that dust went in there? Should i expect the engine going kaboom or am i being OCD now?🤯

They should’ve been more carefully. It should not be in the engine at all. Hopefully it makes it to the filter quickly. I recommend changing the oil and filter just to be safe

If I understand correctly, the oily dust you’re referring to wa son the outside of the engine. If so, that could accumulate road dirt and other debris, which is abrasive.

If there were chunks and what fell in was remove and you are worried about the left over portions, it should be ok. Leaving chunks would not be good.

Though I do think it’ll eventually reach the filter and won’t cause any meaningful damage along the way.

That fucker have no business working on cars
You always clean and blow dust and other particals with shop sit before removing any engine covers a specialy valve cover gasket
When he removed valve cover he should have covered cams with towels than carefully clean and make sure none of the crap goes down on cams and flowers.
His Fuvking idiot this just makes me mad 😡

Yeah it’s really tough to find someone professional here. Before i went to this shop i was talking to other mechanic who told me he specifies in F10s and wanted to negotiate the labor charge before replacing the valve cover but he insisted that my 535i N55 had a 3.5 litter engine, what a surprise… declined to let him change the valve cover but as it seems new shop didn’t do a better job either.
