Creaky sport seats
Hi guys,
I just purchased a 2011 F10 with 29k miles and Sport seats. It's great, but if you move in either the driver or passenger seat, even slightly (ie when cornering) there is an irritating creaky/rubbing sound from where the seat bolster and the plastic frame of the seat rub together. By contrast my 200k mile E39 with Sport seats is, of course, utterly silent. The car is under the equivalent of the US CPO warranty but it specifically excludes 'vehicle trim' so I'm guessing I'm on my own with this one. So far all I can think of is sliding some black felt in the gap between the leather and the plastic frame. You know, the sort of thing you do with your $500 Honda. Anyone else had this? |

I complained about this in another thread. Same thing here.
The creaks sound like they come from all over. Like if you sit in one of those couches with protective plastic wrappes. Not sure if it's fixable. |

I had that with my F30, and it had to do with two leather surfaces rubbing each other. Try adjusting them and condition it after as it should help!

Dakota leather here. Wonder if same seats in nappa have this. I conditioned using leather master products. But I didn't focus on leather to leather contact points. It's worth a try.

I have the same issue, quite annoyed as I have had 6 M Sport BMW's and never had this problem before. Car is due a service so will mention it to the dealer, however not too hopeful that they will address the issue...

I don't have Sport Seats (Exec Pkg) but I've noticed a similar type of creak when I have my shoulder bolsters "extended" too far. When I flatten them back against the seat, it goes away.
However, it does make driving more comfortable with that support there so most times I just turn up the stereo and ignore it lol.

I had my seats all done twice - its felting and greasing
1. A panel may need to be removed underneath the seat 2. The seat needs to come out and be re felted and re greased. This issue is horrendous and common - two mates also same issue. Next is the trim and the door cards. Mine is going back in every single time under warranty until it feels like a 50K car again. Creaking is NOT acceptible. Merc and Audi do not creak. |

On mine it's the side bolster on the seat base rubbing against the panel that houses the electric seat controls. Car going for a service next week so I have asked them to investigate

Right it's fixed!
It was the panel that houses the electric seat controls, when the seat bolster flexes it causes the panel to flex (quite a cheap panel by the looks of it!) The technition argeed it was excessively creaking, he removed both driver and passenger side panels and put some 3m tape on the seat then refitted them, all under warranty So far so good, let's see how long it lasts... |

Excellent news. I'm glad you fixed it. Do you know where he put the tape? My car is covered by the AUC warranty which excludes trim so I suspect they won't do it for me so I'll need to do it myself.

Not sure but I guess you take the panel off and ascertain where the contact points with the seat are, apply a good quality double sided tape and reattach the panel

Just brought mine in for service today and complained of this issue. I asked if their could not be a fix just to remove the piece altogether. My SA thought I was kidding but he said he will have them look at it. I'll mention the fix you have done to yours with the tape. If nothing can be done I will have it removed altogether.

Here is the work order from my repair. They verified the noise was coming from the seat trim. Duh, lol. The creaking has gone down significantly. Still there if I shift my leg over but under normal driving it is barely noticeable. Wouldn't be completely fixed without removing the trim altogether IMO. But I'm happy with the way it is at the moment.

Agreed.
My Dealer also laughed when I said it was not acceptable. BOOM - there goes my lifetime value of a customer, hot footed to the next down who were pleased of the money from BMW to fix. Wonder why the LCI has new seats... bet they fixed it. They are the best seats in any car.. no car beats them but yes leg movement creaks should and can be fixed too. Be kind but firm and if they laugh at you... ask them to show you the car they drove to work in. |
