Hey guys,
Searched all over with no avail...
Wondering if any of you have had the Final Stage Resistor go out on your f10. My fan is acting up, on, off, slow, fast, etc. I am guessing its the FSR/Blower Resistor.

I know on previous BMWs they have been fairly easy to get to/replace. Any one know the location for replacement? Passenger footwell?

Car is a 2011 535xi with 68K.

mine was acting up on my e46, but with that car, pull the fuse or battery first. let the car drain.
Connect it back and it works again. Happened to me twice in 12 years. Not sure if the same with our F10's now.

Yes, my e46 had problems with the blower resistor twice. No such issue with any BMW, including the F10 now, since then. But your description is exactly what it did on my e46 - lack of fan control speed - erratic behavior, up, down, all over the place.

Hi,

I found the place where the F10's final stage resistor is located. The blower motor assembly itself is behind the cabin filter housing, on the passenger side. The top two speeds on my F10 (535i/2011) stopped working continuously earlier this month so I started researching the issue. The resistor is located right below the duct (on the blower motor assembly) that connects the filter system to the blower motor. Unfortunately, that means it's behind the fuse box--and the resistor itself is relatively long. One side of it (with one of the torx bolts) sticks out and you can see it looking into the fuse opening from the glove box, but the other side is about 3-4 inches towards the firewall, and there's another torx bolt there. I'm not sure exactly how to proceed with replacing it just yet. I don't *think* it will require a dash removal but it may indeed require a few components to be shifted around at the very least. My current thinking is that the fuse box needs to be dismounted and moved towards the passenger side door to give enough room to access the torx bolts on both sides of the resistor (as well as its connectors--it has two). But this is a work in progress. I may just give up and take it in to the local mechanic..if anyone's had success here with a DIY I'd love to hear about it.

Can not find it behind the fuse box on the passenger side.

I am curious to here if someone has done the job by themself:-)

I replaced my resistor and my blower motor. The resistor is on the bottom of the blower housing. If you have questions, or can't figure it out, let me know.

my local dealerships are quoting me around $810-$814, part and labor

not bad at all. do you yourself and save all that money. FSU (blower motor resister) cost around 60 on ebay. rest is your time.

I didn't replace my blower motor resistor or FSU however by following this you can get to it. its right underneath the blower fan once you remove it.

Thank you very much. In the meantime I found an indie shop and got my blower motor and housing replaced under warranty. The stupid dealership didn't want to replace it under warranty and instead wanted to charge me $1,300 for the same job. Now that's what I call a blatant rip-off!
