F10 VS G30 Exterior (Personal Opinion)

Hi Guys, I've had my F10 for about 5 years now and absolutely love how the car looks. Mine is the non-Msport version and I like the subtle look. I've had the chance to view a few G30's in person and no matter how I look at it I can't seem to like it!

The front is fine...I actually kind of like it but the hood is wayyy too plain compared to the F10's bulging creases.

On the side...okay here I really don't know what's going on. At the first look the side looks very similar to the F10 but look closer and something about it is just weird. I think the side is too flat compared to the rounded sides in F10. Not sure but I much prefer the F10.

Rear....the rear end literally looks like the new Honda city! Even the rear quarter panel is way too stretched out and the light are huge! I did notice that it looks wider than the f10.

F10 is just so perfect, I don't blame the designers for not being able to beat it.

I like everything about the G30 except the rear. It looks like a 3 series and doesn't match the rest of the car.

I just saw the new 5 series and I must say its a turd on wheels, bmw ruined the aggressive styling by adding all those crappy accent pieces on the front, sides and rear bumper. Also the grills and the headlights look like cheap Japanese crap. I'm very disappointed and now I know why people are jumping ship, I know bmw needs to keep it fresh but they f'd up bad and made the 550 m sport into a grandpa car. I knew it was going to look like shit when bmw sent me a flier for the new 7 series. Its too bad, Ill prolly never buy another 550 again.

Love the f10 design. Still doesn't look aged. G30 is good, but horrible rear like you said.

One of my neighbors had bought a G30 M Sport in white so I see it every day, my M Sport F10 is also white. No matter how much I look at the G30 it just does not give me that burning feeling to actually buy one, however the F10 did the instant I saw one...

Some BMW designs have taken a while to grow on me, however I'm not sure that this one will. I'll have to wait and see what sort of mods become available for it and if that improves the look

I agree except I think the side is okay but I think the headlight assemblies are too big and I don't like the way they connect to the grill. Also I think the rear bumper is too big/tail lights too small. But the F10 does look good so I agree where would they take it? The other thing I don't like are the fake air scoop looking areas above the exhaust areas. It works on the 3 or 4-series but not the 5.

i'm in the same boat as everyone else. it would be a nice car for the wife to drive around for her as she'd like one kept stock looking. anyone have any pictures or seen one with any cosmetic modifications to give it more aggressive look and maybe some sweet custom wheels?

Checked out a new G30 at our local dealership and I have to say I wasn't particularly impressed (granted it was not an M-Sport version). I really don't like the giant headlights and the rear end looked very weak. Another big miss is the hood design. The F10 hood design is a great looking design with its multiple creases where as the G30 hood is mostly flat. Hopefully the M-Sport edition G30 looks better.

I finally saw the new M550i and first glance I thought it was the G11. For me, it will take some time to get use the new design. I will grow on me.

I agree with you on side how F10 is rounded my favorite feature is how side skirts come out in middle then front and rear they tuck them in its just perfect.

I looked at the whole thread and I still dont like it, stock for stock the f10 is better looking and modded the f10 is better looking. I especially hate how they included the gay red reflector in the diffuser but I know that since its new, everybody is going to be nut hugging on this ricer looking bmw.

^ Singapore what are those 200k+ each.

People had a very mixed feeling going from E60 to F10. Give it couple years. Not sure about buying new gen during the launch year. Wait till they fix minor quirks (whatever that is). The G30 has potential.

Thanks BMW FOREVER for those side by side shots! wow the grills are HUGE compared to the F10! lol he also closes his mirrors when he parks like me you can really see the difference in the hood lines...you guys are right! the hood looks horrendous without the body lines! also, from the rear i can clearly see the tail light differences...

I personally think they both look great, it's likely just matter of getting used to G30. I like that it's not a complete re-design, but rather evolution of F10. I really like the creases on the hood of F10 comparing to somewhat "pedestrian/generic/any German car these days" hood on G30. In my opinion, that's one of the things that makes F10 look more aggressive and sportier than competition.

While ago on one of the forum threads, someone brought it up, how those lines from the hood of F10 extend into the interior, smoothly blend into the dash design and continue "flowing" into the cabin along the door/window trim.

Where I feel they could've done a bit better job is interior design (can't comment on materials, haven't really paid attention when I had an opportunity to sit in one). I really dislike the "iPad like" navigation screen, and for my taste there's just lack of flow from the dash down to the center console.

I've posted this comparison before, but I think it speaks for itself how much more attractive the F10 is than it's successor. G30 styling is exaggerated and unnecessary is almost every way.

I think that they have shortened the height of the front end too much and in profile it makes the cabin and rear end look too bulbous. The F10 proportions look more balanced...

G30 proportions are not cohesive. Headlights/grill way too big. Heavy eyebrows remind me of the E60. The angled side slot behind the front wheel is a gimmick that every other car has these days. That flat hood is like an aircraft carrier. The only good thing about the G30 is they finally moved the front hood seam forward to the grill where it belongs -- the dumb front hood seam is the worst feature of F10 that only a dark paint color can hide.

Also the video billboard sticking up out of the dash looks cheap.

BMW, to preserve the classic appearance of the 5 series, likely preferred a derivative restyle for the G30 rather than a revolutionary one. And those great side-by-side photos clearly demonstrate the similarity of old and new versions. Since the majority people on this forum are more familiar than most with F10's, they might view the G30 as something new and (for some) strange or even objectionable. However, the average person looking a that series of Singapore photos would be hard pressed to tell the new version from the old - a blessing for current F10 owners. Currently, BMWs already take a huge hit in resale value. At least the style of the G30 is not so radical that F10s are instantly made to look out of date. My only objection to the G30 is size - it's even bigger than the F10.
