Dustless Brake Pads for F10 535i

Guys, I am relatively new to this particular forum. I am long time owner of a 2002 M3 and a 2002 530i (both still in the family). I am more active on M3Forum.net. I recently purchased a 2012 535i M Sport (no mods yet, getting it shipped from CA next week). I am well acquainted with the notorious brake dust on BMWs and consequently changed out the brake pads on the M3 and 530i to the dustless type (Rotex Gold, Akebono and/or Centric Posi) as soon as I purchased the cars. All pads, IMO, are superb in reducing/eliminating brake dust and have great rotor wear and stopping capability. Best feature of all is I can drive for 100s of miles and there is NO brake dust and that really saved my wheels. They look as good now as when the car was delivered.

So, my first project on the F10 is to replace the pads. Just wondering what the F10 community is doing. I would appreciate any comments. I've also read that replacing the rear pads might required software to release/engage/reset/learn. I do need to investigate more on this. However, shouldn't be a problem. Oh and I am not worried about warranty issues. Been down that road and it was never an issue for me. However, I know times have changed. Ah the days when we all could do DIYs. Becoming more a thing of the past?

FWIW, Zeckhausen Racing has Centric Posi for the 535i. I currently have these on my 530i and they are terrific. Very low dust, integrated shims with no squeal at all.

Thanks and look forward to this forum.

BMW has changed their brake pads for the F10. They have VERY LITTLE brake dust accumulation compared the previous three 5-series that I've had. I wouldn't think replacing the pads would be worth it since the wheels will accumulate road grime anyway and will have to be cleaned.

Thanks for that info. That's very good to hear.

They've at least changed them in the U.S. I don't know about in China.

I came from a 04 e46 where the brake dust drove me nutz! Wheels were always dirty. Currently I have a 535i Msport and I am so happy with the new brake pads that BMW has put on these. I get very little brake dust at all. My rims always seem clean

Agree, very little brake dust as I drove over 2k miles and its very minimal. My wife has an E46 and after driving less than 100 miles on it, it all cakes up with black grind.

I guess I am in agreement after having driven about 500 miles. But still compared to my M3 which has Rotex Gold dustless pads, these BWM pads still produce quite a bit of black stuff IMO. I guess I have been spoiled all these years. Rotex Gold have literally zero brake dust and when you own very expensive (Fikse Profil 10) wheels you begin to appreciate that very quickly. Regardless, I am really looking forward to ownership of this 535i M-Sport edition.

Best Brake pad upgrade for stopping

Hi all,

Dust aside. I feel the brakes on the f10 are weak. I have a 550i. Can I upgrade say the mentioned m3 brake pad brand or M5. I researched Portafield and those seem to be much better than stock from reviews.

Any data or actual experience on different pads is appreciated.

On my M3 I am running Rotex Gold. I am very pleased with the performance but my goal was to reduce brake dust to a minimum. Regardless, I have punished these brakes on some runs and they have held up extremely well. I guess it depends on your objective. I think better braking comes with the "headache" of more brake dust but I am no expert.
