milky white coolant

So the past few times I took the car out (not my daily driver) I noticed I was getting a "low coolant" light popping up on the dash. So I topped off my coolant and all seemed to be fine, the light would not stay on and I would only get the warning here and there.

I checked my coolant today again after seeing the warning and it is full, but the coolant is milky and white. I know this is most likely from oil in the coolant, has anyone else experienced this???

Serge (badblack) hooked me up with a guy at a local bmw dealership so I will be contacting him tomorrow, but I want to hope for the best.

Car is a 2015 550xi with 24k miles on it. I change my own oil every 5k, miles, has jb4 tune, intakes and catless downpipes (obviously taking all off beforehand).

EDIT -- oil consumption is also nothing out of the ordinary from the day I got the car. I have to add about 1qt every 5k miles.

Did you buy the JB4 new or used? If used, did you check tune settings before you installed it in your car?

He added regular poland spring in his coolant tank, not distilled and topped off with 50/50 mix later.

ok ok ok in my defense... look at the owners manual LOL.....

BMW really needs to fix that. in the owners manual, and the owners manual through the nav screen, it shows the coolant tank in the front of the drivers side engine bay. WRONG... its in the back corner of the drivers side...

Please tell me how they mess that up.

i drained the power steering and refilled it with the correct fluid, and topped off my coolant in the right tank. I will upload a pic of the owners manual later clearly showing the mistake.

OP, Why didn't you just swing by a dealer for a top-off? They will even do that for my out of warranty 2000 M5 when it needs coolant or washer top off.

Did the caps not have what fluid you are supposed to use? That should have been a red flag too.
