TPM Sensor Issues

I just bought new wheels for my 2011 535i with TPM sensors. When I go through the iDrive to the reset TPM the reset option is grayed out. I can't select it. Couple questions... How can I ensure that the company I bought the wheels from did in fact install the TPMs I ordered? Is there something else I need to do to reset the TPMs? What options do I have to troubleshoot this?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

if you bot aftermkt wheels and sensors, you likely bot the wrong sensors, which means you have to take the tires off the rims and have new sensors installed. I'm not sure if you can tell if the sensors are installed because they sit inside the rims. Typically, presence of a metal clamp-in valve identifies the presence of a direct tire pressure monitoring system, but it's not always the case.

That is what I thought. After doing more research, I discovered that the sensors that the company installed where for the the right make model and year of my car, but not the build date. 2011 535i's built before Sept 2010 use a different Mhz.

There are 2 versions, pre and post sept. Try to call that company and see which one they ordered.

They sent the wrong ones. So, they are sending the new ones and will reimburse me for changing them. A but inconvenient, but works out in the end.

can't you just take the sensors off from the oem wheels that came with the car and put them on your new wheels?

That would work, but I didn't want to cannibalize my winter tires.

Haha! Right... Here is a horrible photo a co-worker posted on FB.

I ended up getting 20" Concept One Executive Wheels RS-8 Hyper Silver with Chrome Lip. I couldn't be happier with the look. I opted for the staggered 8.5 and 10's in the back. They really look sharp.
