rattle buzz on passenger side

So I read thru some threads about rattles but no solution posted other than go to dealer. I am hoping you guys have a solution as my last bmw returned from service with nicks in the leather after some interior fixed. I have less than 200 miles. Rattle occurred when I took the car home with 10 miles. Didn't bother me when I first picked it up since I was too excited. My car has the performance exhaust which starts the rattle when car is accelerating. Usually around 40 mph. The buzz seems to be coming from the door. Either trim piece or some internal piece. Only can be heard when accelerating. Any ideas without taking to dealer?

And it's not the seat belt buckle. I held onto it while driving to make sure it's not the buckle hitting against the b pillar

I don't know if this helps or not, but in my 535 when it started to rattle, it always seemed to stop after i had a relatively heavy person in the passenger seat. After about the 3rd time, it just stopped happening.

Hate to say this but the f10s interior are rattle traps. My car buzzes and rattles like crazy. B pillars, driver side door, passenger side door, passenger side speaker center dash speaker, passenger side seat, sunroof. My car is a 2013 with only 25k miles. Many of these have been there since day one and the dealer was never able to fix it. F10 is a great car but my perceived quality of the interior is very poor.

You got unlucky, sorry to hear that.
But I don't agree at all with poor interior quality statement.

+1

Mine is superb, no rattles despite M Sport suspension and 20" wheels...

So I tried lowering and raising headrest. Changing positions on passenger seat as I've read in other threads that this could be a solution. Didn't work for me. However what I did notice is that in comfort mode, the exhaust tone is deeper which makes the rattle occur. When I switch to sports mode, it seems the exhaust valve opens up and the rattle stops. Not a fix, but a temporary solution. I guess this rattle isn't as prevalent since most consumers (excluding people from this forum since they may have aftermarket exhaust) have the stock exhaust. Although mine is stock, the performance exhaust seems to be the catalyst

Not sure if this helps or even applies....

335 had issue with buzzing noise during acceleration. The problem turned out to be one of the A/C pipes connected to the evaporator vibrating. BMW issued a bulletin to add a weight and clamp to counter the vibration. I recall the fix entered production beginning Dec 2013.

Maybe some 5 series suffer from a similar issue?

Completely agree with this statement! The most disappointing car I have ever owned for rattles and squeaks. Mine was 9 months old when I got it and it's taken many hours of messing about to sort of the issues - plus dealer can't solve them either. I have an ongoing one with my passenger headrest too! Had Audi's for years and never had anything like the amount of issues this F10 lci has!

Other than the rubbish interior plastic choices - the car is superb to look at and drive! So I'm always in conflict about how happy I am with it!

And I can say the opposite. My 2011 A6 was a rattletrap from day 1. Had it into the dealer many times and they could never get rid of them for longer than a couple of hours. My 2012 535i's only rattle is my metal coffee cup -- but I just turn the music up louder then.

Had the exact same thing happen to my car. My car is a 2012 with 14k miles. Here the steering wheel is on the right side but the rattle is from the left side. Can only hear it when car is acceleration between 1k-2k rpm. But when a heavy person sits on the passenger side the sound goes away. It sounds like it's coming from the dashboard or the door...not sure what's causing it.
