Traded 420d GC for 520d....
I liked my GC but really didn't love it. It had a hard ride despite being on Michelin Pilot SS and the 2.0d sounded like a bag of nails. Just traded it for a 520d M Sport (same at the GC) and am very happy. Cars are both Carbon Black with pale interiors. The GC was well equipped, but I lost its sunroof to the F10. However, I now have VDC and a lovely Oyster and aluminium interior with Professional Nav. The 5 series is also a year younger and it cost me very, very little to change. You guys were right, the F10 is a much better car than the F30! Chuffed to bits.
How can I tell what engine I have in the car? It is 119g/km of CO2 so I presume it is the LCI...? |

I've just ordered a 520d as well, my 320d has been gone about 6 months.
I can't believe the level of refinement in the f10 with a 4 cyl diesel, it's hugely impressive. Mine will have the newer B47 engine and has 119g with the auto box on 19's (and some 18s) and 119g on most 18s with a manual box. Only ordered Sunday, being built later this week! |

It's definitely an LCI as it was only registered in late March last year. It was quite a shock how unrefined the 4 series was on the way home. I thought that the 5er would feel large and floaty, but it just felt like a much more refined and comfortable variant of the 4er. Obviously it is much longer; it doesn't, however, feel dramatically wider...

I upgraded from a 2010 e90 to a 2015 F10 about 8 months ago with no regrets. I've never driven a 420 but often wondered how they compared to the 5 series, so I'm pleased to know I made the right choice

I think the 4er GC is actually noisier than the 3er because of the longer open cabin due to the hatch. Anecdotal of course, but when I drove a loaner 320d, due to warranty issues, the latter was much quieter.

To me, it's all about the build quality of the 5 series, the choice of materials, the weight, and the noise damping. Of course the 4 tries to be an upmarket version of the 3, but as we know things have to be engineered to a certain cost... and it shows, since a lot of the components are common across the 1, 2, 3 and 4 series. |
