New Member- Question on buying used
Hello all,
New to the forum but not to BMW's. I have a 2000 Z3 and a 2001 530. Came across this forum while researching the new F10 which I am looking to buy used. I'm a member of a few other forums but this one hands down has the best F10 forum. My first question is this, and I did try to search it: When I purchase a 2011 528i what if anything should be included besides an owners manual and 2 keys? If for example I get Nav should there be a DVD with it. I might find a car that's not at a BMW dealer, say CarMax, where they would not know either. If the car is missing something I want to be able to deduct it from the purchase price in order to replace it. Again, thank for any and all answers. I look foward to discussing this car in the future with you. Ken |

There is no Nav DVD.
Aside from The two keys (one red, one blue), a bunch of manuals, the DVD with the tire warranty, the BMW assist card, that's about it. Also, buy a car built after September 2010 (placard on the door jamb). Trust me, you really want to do this. |

Just curious as to why? Seems like I've read these cars had issues with the steering pulling to the right on early models. Is this why and Sept. 2010 is a good cut off date? Any and all info appreciated!!

Personally I wouldn't buy one used. It could likely be a buyback - especially at a place like CarMax. If you decide to go forward with this and you find a car, locate the original owner and ask them why they got rid of it. You'll be better off keeping your E39. Best car ever made. Ever.

All good points, not looking at CarMax. And yes, I do love my E39, may keep it, but wife wants a new one. There are quite a few used ones around for a good bit less money than new. That's how we bought the E39, off lease. So...what's up with the Sept 2010 build date if not the pulling issue? Thanks |

But the most important issue is the steering pull. That's when they introduced an updated part number on the steering column, which helps the issue. As far as buying used, I've bought my last 3 cars CPO as it's a great deal for me. I typically keep my cars 5-7 years and put well over 100k on them so the CPO warranty is worth it's weight in gold. I'm more than happy for someone else to take the initial depreciation hit and then enjoy the car for a while after that. The market is pretty flooded with F10's right now (what does that tell you) and you should be able to work a pretty good deal. I was on the fence between new vs .CPO and the deal I got on my car made it a no-brainer. |
