That's really bizarre. What color paint do you have? I have owned two black BMW's and had chronic swirl mark issues but I have never seen paint actually peel. Both of my previous daily driver's were V8's as well...

Something was on the paint to cause that. Stuff like brake fluid could do that. Paint doesn't just bubble up unless it wasn't oem. Could also be some serious toxic bird poop left on the paint for an extended period of time baking under the sun for too long.

The paint quality (aside from minor orange peel) is light years better than the Lexus I had. No complaints here.

Thank you gentlemen. The color is Citrin Black.

First two are of one area, last two are of the other area.

Any additional thoughts as to what it can be?

And, no, it hasn't been repainted.

It looks like the paint has been etched from bird droppings.

Would bird droppings cause the paint to become 'raised'? If 'etched', as in scratched downward, I would understand it to be bird droppings, but these are bumps / ripples pushed up through the surface with no paint discoloration, as if it’s coming from beneath the paint...

wow..... sad to see that happen to such a beautiful color...

how often do you wash/detail your car?

in my experience bird droppings would just leave little marks that can be buffed out.. (had some crazy bird take a dump on my car which i removed asap but still left a small mark...)

could someone have chucked eggs at your car while it was hot? i heard that it could seriously damage paint..

in any case, try talking to the dealer, they might do something about it for you

It happened on my Jaguar. It must have been a huge bird because it was all of the rear quarter panel. I rinsed it off the next day and my paint looked exactly like yours did. The paint bubbled underneath and was etched quite badly.

I wash it often; two times per month, on average, but no, I don’t believe anyone threw eggs.

Yours looked exactly the same, as if it had bubbled from underneath? If so, that would explain it then. Though, I thought it would've had a more 'etched' look if from a bird. :|

Thanks again.

Could be that someone has thrown some sort of corrosive liquid on the car (brake fluid, acid ?), can you get a lab to do some tests..?

Considering how nasty those pigeons are in NY and what they eat....that bird must have had a toxic load on your paint.

I think it's the dealer. I'm sure something happened to your car and they had it repainted or touched up.

I know a lot of dealerships that have on site PDC's and Touch up guys there for all the accidents.

Thanks for the input, but not that I know of. I'm just thinking that with the extreme heat we had last week, something bubbled from underneath. Otherwise, while it’s pinpointed in the photos, if not looking for it, it’s not readily visible in person, believe it or not.

Just curious, is there a difference in the paint on V8's and the others ?

Looks to me like there was a contaminant on the metal prior to the car being painted. Just my opinion though.

None - but since the imperfections he was referring to are on the hood I considered there may be a correlation to the heat produced by a V8.

Either the panels had contamination before they were painted, or the acid from bird droppings cause this. I would see if the dealer repaints it, since paint is covered under warranty.

Clearer photos attached.

Showed service manager today.

Said paint is the only thing he can't authorize himself and that he'll contact corporate.

Should I require a new hood pre-painted from the factory?
