New Engine time. N63

Well. Three shops confirmed my 550i needs a new engine. Man this N63 is a bastard.
What's the best route? Cheapest I have found is 6600$ plus 2500 install.

It has rod knock currently. Not too bad but it'll die soon.

Has anyone rebuilt the n63 with new bearings?

I'd get a Coyote 5.0 out of a crashed late-model Mustang and put that in. I'm not joking. Even an LS swap from a GM would make sense.

435 naturally aspirated horsepower. You see the same basic engine in F150's with 180,000 miles on them. You get 5.0 liters of horsepower instead of 4.4 liters of headaches.

I'll put good money that the engine might work but getting the electronics to play nice will be a major challenge!

Yeah you should look into an aftermarket extended warranty. My friend's F01 750 also with the n63 has been out of factory warranty for a couple of years now and he decided to buy aftermarket warranty. The warranty company he went with (Route 66) is quite reputable and so far he has gotten both his engine and trans replaced, both times he only had to pay his $500 deductible.

The warranty through them alone is 2995$.

$3k for 36 months is a good deal considering he got a brand new engine and transmission and some other stuff replaced and the total bill is well over the price he paid for the warranty, considering the N63 is a ticking time bomb.

you cant purchase the warranty directly from Route 66. the only way to get it is thru your bank or whoever would be financing the car.

New coffee table, or a wine bottle holder!
