Different Gear Sticks on F10

Hi All,

Does anyone know why there are two different types of gear sticks on the F10?

I thought the normal auto didnt come with those normal/sport buttons?? this one has it

Edit: Just built sport and normal on bmw website and you are correct, im surprised those buttons come with a normal auto with no adaptive drive.

Drive a normal auto and you will feel a big difference between Sport and Comfort. It holds the gears for longer and I 'think' it changes the engine mapping as well. It goes much better is Sport.

Both are the same technically, Sport Automatic Transmission comes with the leather base plus the paddle shifter on the steering wheel.

As for the sport/comfort selector , this is related if you have the Adaptive drive (which include DDC) or the Dynamic Damper Control as stand alone option . and not related to the gear stick type.

I think the Driving Dynamics selector (Normal, Sport, Sport+ modes) became standard on the MY2012 models. The optional DDC (Dynamic Damper Control) adds damper control to each mode, plus additional Comfort modes. An EcoPro mode was added at some stage as well.

I think he's referring to moving the shifter to the left to put the transmission in sport/and or manual mode. All BMW autos have had this feature for a long time. The sport auto option provides paddle shifters and software which provides slightly faster shifts...both have a sport mode which holds the transmission in gear longer and downshifts more aggressively.

Also, to the OP, the sport auto shifter feels much higher quality and get it with ceramic controls option and it's even nicer

Perhaps, if you bought a new one from BMW. I got mine though from a Bimmerfest Forum friend, and I paid a fraction of the $800 OEM Cost.

It is a little more than visual too as the shifter feels ten times better in my hand than the stock one.
