NorCal Steering Wheel Swap

Does anyone know any reputable people to get the job done?

I needed to swap and airbag and a steering wheel. Would be preferred if they could code as well to get paddles to work.

Pretty straight forward DIY, took me about 20 min to swap out one. Most of the time was spent disconnecting the battery and waiting for all the system to shut down before unplugging all the connectors. (Disconnecting the battery can avoid any faulty codes that might generated during the process)

As for the coding, I'm sure someone on the forums can do a remote session and mod the codes in order to get the paddles working.

I just had this done at a independent BMW shop 2 days ago. The owner that worked on my car was a master foreman at BMW of Manhattan and Hassle prior to opening up his own shop. I mentioned something about disconecting the battery from the info on this forum but he told me "not nessasary". Then countined to swaped out my steering wheel, airbag in less than 5 mins then coded the paddles. Whole process took about 20mins and I didn't have any problems with error codes.

Here is the code to activate paddles.

Add 2TB to the VO, and code KOMBI, EGS, GWS, ICM, SZL to reflect the addition.

Swapped my Pre LCI to LCI wheel without disconnecting my battery too. I have SAT so no coding was required for me. No issues at all, just don't turn the ignition on or start the car without having the airbag connected. You'll have the airbag light on and will have to clear it with Tool32 or ESYS

It's pretty straight forward, you can find detailed instructions here. http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1073734.

Post #41 has a great tip on disconnecting airbag.

As for battery disconnecting, it takes 2 min to do, why not do it, even if it's not necessary ? Better safe than sorry.

Not disconnecting the battery is asking for trouble. The slightest bit of stray electricity could ignite it.

I did the whole base to sport wheel w/paddles swap. I even had to swap my old airbag into the new cover as the steering wheel came with a single-stage, Euro-spec airbag. Wasn't too bad at all. Probably 1 1/2 wrenches out of 5.

In the professional auto industry no one pulls the battery terminal to swap a steering wheel or R&R a bag. Stray electricity? Lol....

If you were local to me I'd offer to do the job for free, it really doesn't take long.
