So I'm not sure if this is wastegate chatter or not, but just a poll for those N63 owners out there, is a metallic chatter on cold starts normal? It goes away after the engine is up to temp.

After the starter disengage, the rattle happens for 1-2 second on a cold start. Doesn't do it if I just park the car for say an hour or less.
Could be oil pumping, dry lifters, wastegate, or exhaust tip valve. |

Yup that's the noise. It must be the starter.

Oh, so we have the exact same noise but no resolution? I do wonder now if it is indeed the wastegate. I've watched the videos on YouTube, but mostly I found only N54 noise.

Lol. Actually had both of my turbo replaced due to other circumstances but the noise is still there.
It's got to do something with the oil. Because once you start the engine and shut it off, the rattling is gone if you start it right back up. The noise will return when you leave it off for a while. Somehow oil is draining back out of the pump or chain tensioner. Im no engineer but every engine have the same concept. A wastegate rattle will have the noise every single time you start it. Even the service foreman is stump for a resolution. They had to compare another n63 thats on the lot and that too had the same noise. When I was given a 535 as a loaner, that car started up so smooth and quiet, it makes me want to just trade my car in for an n55. But the acceleration power of the n63 is whats holding me back. Sigh!! |

I don't mind if its an inherent N63 trait as long as it's not a sign for something more serious in the works.
Someone has to know the noise. Anyone else have the same exact chatter? I'll try to video when I get back home Friday. If all folks have the same noise, I'll chalk it up to N63 eccentricity, but if it's only a few, maybe it's a serial issue?
