F11 Rear Speaker Install Plug n Play under £40

As everyone will probably agree the standard sound system in most bmw's is pretty awful, i did a complete amplified install on my e90 3 series so felt pretty confident in tackling the 5.

Now unfortunately this thread is only for the rear roof lining speakers and will only apply to f11's as the f10 setup is slightly different but principle is the same and plug and play connectors will be the same.

I started by researching shallow mount 4" coaxial and decided to go for these for various reasons.

i also ordered the plug n play speaker plugs and wire from bmw dealer, part numbers..
plug housing-61138373583
wire-61130005198
These only took a day to come into stock.

I was then ready once the coaxials had arrived to install, i started by taking the rear speaker covers of these come off extremely easy just use a flat head srewdriver carefully!

once off theres just two torx bolts cant remember sizes sorry, once these are out a slight tug down and oem speaker and mount will come free.

Then i unplugged and took oem speakers out by unscrewing the 3 torx bolts, prepped new speakers by cutting the top taps of with wire cutters to allow me to fit them in oem mounts.

here is the difference between oem and my new in-phase..

Next was to heatshrink and connect the plug n play harness together

positive to positive !!! bmw positive is the red line cable brown is neutral, and connect to corresponding speaker terminals.

Finally reverse removal and fit back in place, please be assured the oem speaker cover will go back over the coaxial just!! literally a perfect fit.

overall the rear sound fill has improved substantially and will be even more noticable once the fronts are done-working progress at present will update shortly. And for less than £40 all in you cant really go wrong just need a bit of confidence and basic knowledge.

Good install guide, looking forward to seeing how easy the front speakers as to install. Are you fitting front tweeters too?

Yes fitting tweeters, have already got the sails/mounts from bmw just waiting on the speakers now.

I was originally going to do a sub £150 install consisting of plug and play front components and all oem hardware needed, plus rear coaxials, no amp as yet and no underseat upgrade but if i was to do that it would have to be a 4channel amp and sws earthquakes and just run the rears off headunit but maybe in the future.

I basically would have gone for these, great price and great performance for the money..

However two days ago managed to get a steal on a focal component set off fleabay so ill wait till there fitted before i pass judgement.

Hopefully get fronts done this saturday, and will post experience.

Unfortunately im pretty sure they wont fit in the f10, well at least not with the grill cover on. I think the f10 rear setup is slightly more pushed for space.

Think your only option maybe to fit a shallow depth component set in there, but its definately going to be trial and error, best of luck.

Hey im hopefully mounting focals in the door tommorow though will keep you posted on that

Hello,

can you suggest an upgrade speakers for front doors?
I am not really sure if there s a depth issue or magnet diameter....
would these fit?

copy / paste

Hello all,

just done the upgrade. same speakers, same procedure. much better bass and treble. The tweeters are almost touching the plastic grill, but don`t think that should be a problem.

Thanks for the diy!
