£1 kindney grill change

I didn't much care for the shiny chrome leading edge on the fins of my F07, many of the BMW's I see have chrome round the edge but matt black finns.

I like my car to look like it's got the snorting nostrils of an angry pig when it comes up behind people.

You will need:
- 30 mins
- 1000 grit wet and dry, available from motor factors or online, i used about a 10th of a sheet
- vestibule of water
- rags or paper towel to wipe off residue

Optional:
- finer wet and dry to give polish
- bumper shine type stuff (poundland will do)

Pros:
- no need to remove the grills, (I'm told this is a pain)
- cheap

Cons:
- no way back, to get back to the OEM look you'd need to buy new grills

Method:
Simply take a very small strip of the wet and dry (you dont want the whole sheet or the excess might sand something else while you're doing the finns) dunk it in the water and carefully rub the silver of the leading edge. keep wipeing away the residue with paper towel to see if you've missed a spot. Keep re-dunking to keep the paper wet for a good finish. Don't be tempted to use coarser paper or you'll ruin the finish.

If you want a more shine finish you can use progressively finer grades of wet and dry and polish up. I then used some silicone spray on paper towel to give the fines a bit of a matt shine...

I'm happy with it...

Did the same thing on mine but I removed the grill and used metal polish to remove the chrome from the slats. The classic chrome border and black slats looks best on any BMW imo.
