High pitched tone

I put this here because it's in the engine compartment. Anyone have any idea what this tone is? The dealer and I have been trying to chase this down for just over 3 years. They can't duplicate as it's quite intermittent.

Is it heard when the car is hot and just turned off?

VERY bizarre scenario... Been out driving engine bay hot. Once cool air, like when I open the garage door, hits the bay, the noise starts. Close door, noise stops. Open door, starts again. This can happen 1 hour after arriving home or 3 hours, there is no rhyme, reason or consistency.

On the n63 we have an auxillary coolant pump that runs when the car is off. Not sure if you have one. I would imagine if the pump was seized it would make that noise.

If I had one and were it seized it wouldn't last 3 years. I would imagine I would have overheating issues also.

I would agree except the auxiliary pump has no effect on overall cooling. It only cools the DME and circulates coolant when the engine is off.

All i can say is the noise sounds like a seized pump to me. I am comparing it to pumps i come across at work which are pool pumps, pond pumps, and irrigation pumps.

Wouldn't the sound always be there?

Oh yeah; the sound comes from the drivers side, down by and just forward of the throttle body.
