You shouldn't really idle the car that long... 1 to 2 mins than drive but keep RPMs at 3k until car warms up.

Well, that's OIL temperature, not coolant. When it's cold 18 (even 20-25) minutes isn't unreasonable for the oil to reach operating temp. During that time, you should stay out of the turbo as much as you can and drive easily.

The heater pulls heat from the coolant. So if all you've been doing is idling, the coolant will take a while to heat up, which means it takes a long time for heat to come out.

Also, make sure the little knob next to the vents isn't turned to cold.

If you have an OBDII BT app you can read exact temps. In the cold winter I can drive for 10 to 15 mins before the gauge on the dash even moves... but I also have higher flow valves on my oil cooler and my temps in my MHD settings set to sport.

Have you checked the coolant level. May also be a thermostat issue. As far as the heat is concerned. And my oil temp gauge never goes much higher than what’s pictures. Between the 1/4 and 1/2 mark. Not sure if that’s normal. My wife’s f15 goes just under the 1/2 mark.

This sounds like a thermostat that's stuck open. T-stat normally is closed until coolant reaches a certain temp (Looks like 103dgC for your N55 per FCP Euro website). So you have coolant flowing through radiator from the get-go and that means it takes a lot longer for engine to warm up and thus longer to get heat.

Hi people

I’m new to site can seem to post properly yet but thought I’d chance my arm here . I have a problem on my 2011 f10 . Nearly everyday lately can happen when driving or idol all will be fine and then out of nowhere the temp gauge drops to bottom and the revs will go higher and the sound of the engine changes. This can last for 30 secs or sometimes 5 mins and then just goes back to normal . No warning or engine lights come on when this happens and it’s been happening about 3 weeks now ... I can’t find anything about this so far online . Can anybody please shed some light on this for me it’s really annoying.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Correct. on the vBulletin-style forums you typically have to reach 5 posts before you can open your own thread. Welcome to the forum!

In order to assist you, we would need more information:
- What engine do you have?
- Have you pulled trouble codes?
- Have you done any work recently prior to this beginning?

I have 520 2lt .

It’s my first BMW this start happening about 6 or 7 months after I bought it
I’ve had no work done on it prior to the beginning of this .
I changed the wheels for original 17s to 20 inch with 245/35/20 on front and 275/30/20 on back recommend size from wheel company and couple of weeks after I put them on the run flat monitor and driver stabilisation warnings start popping up .

I brought to garage he said the car should reset itself he couldn’t find setting to put in new wheel sizes 🤦*♂️

Now everytime that problem with temp gauge and revs happens it sets of the run flat warnings at the same time .

I was talking to a polish bmw mechanic today he said maybe having two different size tyres is confusing computer 🤷*♂️ And recommended putting same size tyres as front on back too ...

It’s really taking the fun out of the car and the garage I go to doesn’t seem to have a clue how to fix it ...

Joe Duffy BMW is very expensive to leave car in with so I’m hoping for some advice on here ..

Thanks for your time
