F10 N20 Engine Swap
I recently bought a a super cheap 2012 528i 128k with a trashed engine. I have the engine out and it looks like the engine seized up due to the oil pump chain shattering. So Im pretty sure I won't be able to save the engine.
While I have the engine out, I've been curious if it is possible to swap an N20 out for N55 or N63 or better. Is it possible? Has anyone else made this swap? If so, what should I expect? (cost? mods? eco? etc...) To be clear, I am not asking if I should buy another car. The cost to me would be parts as I'll be doing all the work. I'm curious and haven't found a thread that was straight forward on answering this question. The plan is to get another N20, replace the timing chains and guides for updated ones and keep it moving but if there is a possibility of swap, I'd rather do it while I'm at this point. I love a challenge so I may try it anyway. But would like some input prior. |

Did you swap?
I intend to put an N57 or N47 engine from a 525d (2016) in a 2006 E90. My fear is due to the non-electronic compatibility. Have you had this problem? |

I think this will be extremely difficult, the wiring harness and the programming of the car needs to change completely.
