Rear seat controls
(Also posted on BimmerFest)
While I was waiting (seemingly forever) for US redelivery of my 550i after European Delivery, I spent a lot of time reading the owner's manual and watching the videos on BMWUSA.com. Due to the options I chose, my car already had heated rear seats. I rarely have passengers in the car with me, but I decided to go for the four-zone climate control anyway. (I'm middle-aged, and so are most of my friends. This way, if anybody's having a hot flash, nobody has to suffer. ) So, with all the features in the rear seat, I decided to take a hint from the airlines and create my own seatback instructions card. Borrowing liberally from the Owner's Manual, then adding in a little prose of my own, I came up with a two-page document of instructions for everything. I printed two copies, had them laminated in the heaviest plastic Staples carries, and stashed one in each seatback pocket. If my friends had any doubts about my sanity, they're gone now. But everybody thinks they're pretty cool. (I'll attach one picture of the cards in the seat pockets, another that shows the front and back of the card, and one gratuitous F10 shot, plus a PDF of a generic version. Sorry the photos are so big.)

The other one that one of my friends pointed out (okay, she used to be a tech writer and professional proofreader) is that the horizontal blue/red temperature thumbwheels on the rear console aren't explained. The other addition I want to make is photos of the window shades open and closed. Someone also suggested doing one for the front seat, and I think I'm going to do that. I've had several friends check out the car, and nobody was able to figure out the shoulder support without my showing it to them. I put that page of the onboard Owner's Manual on one of the memory buttons, used that, and still, they didn't understand it. I will probably go with photos for the front seat controls (now that I have the car!).
