Confirmation on F10 Tech Changes in 2013 and Technology Package (Navigation/Apps)?
Good afternoon everyone. Would someone please confirm with me the technology changes that will be implemented in the 2013 F10? First off, according to the official 2013 5 Series pricing guide (got a printed copy from my dealer), the Technology Package for 2013 includes (for $2,800): (609) Navigation, (610) Head-up Display, (615) Online Information Services, (6NF) Smartphone Integration, (6NR) BMW Apps, (6UH) Real Time Traffic Information, and (6WA) Instrument cluster with extended contents.
I have read the various posts in this forum and the sites that explain the updates (http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691429), however, I haven't seen real confirmation on some of these updates, nor do I understand the importance of them. Here are my questions: 1) How different will the navigation system be in the 2013 F10 over the 2012 F10? 2) How different will the iDrive be in the 2013 F10 over the 2012 F10? Is it even changing, or just the navigation? 3) Are the BMW Apps (and Smartphone integration) changing? 4) I have read all of the online materials on the revised "multifunction instrument display" (http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690544) that will be available on the 2013 F10 as an option. As you see above, the 2013 Technology Package now includes the "Instrument cluster with extended contents." Is this the same thing? If not, what is it? I do not see any other available options on the pricing guide that say "instrument." |

Interesting - so if it is the standard instrument display, how does one get the new TFT screen instrument display mentioned in the sites? I don't see an option for it on BMWconfig.com

This is for EU/ROW markets, maybe it's not yet homologated for the US market for now. |

Jason,
I know we are all talking about this on http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...1#post12121626 but I wish there was some way to see if the 6WA for a 2013 F10 in the U.S. market is the equivalent as the 6WB (new MFID) in the European markets. Perhaps the new MFID won't be available for another year in the U.S..... As I said in the other post: I am hesitant to be so certain that the 6WA in the Tech Package for the 2013 F10 is not the new MFID, and I will tell you why - If you try to build a new 5 series on the BMW UK website, you can add as an option, for 115 British pounds, the "Black Panel Display," which is described as a: "Full Black panel technology, as described on the left, but additionally with a high-resolution 9.2" Info Display below. This shows such information as current fuel consumption, range, on-board computer functions and trip and mileage counter in parallel with navigation prompts. The display features Black Panel technology, when the ignition is off, it appears as a flat, Matt Black surface. The only three-dimensional elements are the Chrome rings, open at the bottom, that encircle the display’s dials. As soon as the vehicle is opened, the Chrome rings turn into full circles, and the dials and displays appear. (Only in conjunction with Headup Display)." And here is the kicker - guess what the BMW code is for the UK "Black Panel Display"? "6WA". Are we surrrreeee this is not the same 6WA in the U.S. Technology Package? Thoughts? But, isn't the "Full Black Panel" (6WA on BMW UK) the new MFID? The instrument in the 2012 F10 does not fit that UK description of the 6WA. Are you guys sure?
Also, everyone in (http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...1#post12137443) is confusing me about whether the new Navi/IDrive will in fact be on the 2013 July F10 production. Last edited by DitrasetMan; 06-11-2012 at 10:14 PM.. |

Initially at launch, the F10 has only 1 type of instrument cluster, that is the standard one u're seing now (i.e. no display under speedo). I think from 03/11 production onwards 6WA became available & it comes free with HUD or nav (also available as standalone option in some markets). 6WA is essentially the same cluster u're seeing in the F01/02, with an additional display under the speedo. 6WA is also called "full black panel" in some markets. For MY2013 comes 6WB, which is the new MFID. Notice it has never been called "full black panel" by anyone. So, 3 types of cluster for MY2013: standard, 6WA & 6WB. |

Standard looks like any other cluster from previous bmw's with a small lcd box in the middle. It does not black out when the car is off
6WA black out completely when the car is off so it looks just like a black screen. The entire lower half of the cluster is like LCD showing you different contents that isn't available on the standard one. The lcd starts where the rings are cut off.

MFID will not be available in North America for July builds. This is pretty much confirmed at this point. 6WA is 6WA is not 6WB MFID.
Dealers are already putting in 2013 July build orders now so if it were to be available it would be on the ordering guides by now. The ordering guide that Jason posted on this forum was exactly the same thing my dealer printed out from their system. The new Navigation will be available on all 2013 F10s for North America including the M5 which is built on the same assembly line. When we will get the 6WB option in NA is anyone's guess but its def. not July builds. Alan

Yep. Absolutely correct. Option 6WB is available here in OZ for 5ers as of 1 Nov. & the nomenclature in the pix above is what is used here as well.

I have 6WA, all the information is blacked out when the car is off, but still visible the four open rings and the hands, these are physical parts on the cluster.
