No..they left everything in from the resonator forward. They just flanged in pipes back from the resonator back with very small mufflers back. It sounded like all the drown came from the trunk forward. I'm thinking if they didn't have good enough mufflers with the system.nice tips however. I'm wondering if I had better mufflers possibly off the M5 if it would drown..?
the M5 mufflers are pretty much empty cans...take a look...

Sounds sick as fuu. Ill be taking the mufflers from my brothers beast as soon as it comes in. Was it hard to get the valves to work with the Akra tips? How much customization was needed? Thanks

thanks man....it was a pretty easy mod since there is plenty of wiggle room to move the cans around. All you have to do is move the factory hangers on the M5 mufflers and mod the size of the tailpipes to fit the new tips. The outer tailpipes (the ones with the valves) are bigger OD than the inner so you have to adapt your tips to two different size tailpipes. You can see that on the picture above....

The biggest issue with the stock 550 mufflers is that they are much bigger and there is no wiggle room which makes it impossible to move the cans toward the front of the car to give you room to put different tips on. With the M5 mufflers, moving the cans forward to fit the tips without cutting the valves off is pretty easy.

Sorry for the late reply dont really come on here. Yea i can defintely see the difference in diameter from the inner and outer tailpipes. How did you secure the tips onto to the existing piping past the valves? Welded? The one thing im worried about when swapping the m5 mufflers is the lose of back pressure. Did you experience any loss in low end thrust? Also did you do just the mufflers or was there a bit of excess piping that was left on mufflers towards the Xpipe? Thanks for the reply.

we welded extensions on to the existing tailpipes and used the clamps provided by Akra to clamp the tips to the extensions. No loss of back pressure at all or low end thrust. We used mufflers with about 3 feet of the stock pipes and attached them to my 3" upgraded pipes/xpipe coming from the engine right at the axle.

I have a 550i so it sounds like if I want to just replace my mufflers with those from a m5 it's feasible? Is it a direct retrofit from axle back?

Thanks for sharing the pics and the sound clips.

That's very very nice looking. My 550i is at the shop now getting an F10 rear diffuser and an Eissenman Race installed. Here's to hoping it isn't as painful a job as yours seems to have been. But it sounds like a good experienced body/exhaust shop can make easy work of it from your post. Any tips or words of comfort? LOL

Was going with the M5 rear diffuser but ran into major problems as the Eissenman exhaust cans are huge and don't leave enough room to retrofit into the f10 M5 rear valance with room for the tips to align. So I got the exhaust fitted but had to go back to my stock M-sport rear valence. Sound and function over looks...I guess I'll get a Vorsteiner or other rear valence later one then.
