Waranty Issue F10 :(
I have a BMW F10 with the follow VIN: C708267. I have a problem with the
leather. In my case the leather paint from driver seat and central armrest has some defects.I contacted my local dealer and they deny to change the leather on warranty. In my opinion is and factory defect, because is not possible to have this kind of defects in just over 8 months of exploitation.I will add some pictures to see.I didn`t find a way to add picture to this forum, and if i use my direct link it didn`t resize,so follow this link and click on each picture: http://dailynewsengine.com/media/garantie/noi/ Any suggestions? |

The seat looks like a factory defect if you say it surely isn't dirt. I can't see the blemish on the armrest in the pics. Either way you'll have to push the dealer until they get the factory rep involved. My father had this happen on another vehicle (can't remember which one... either VW or Infiniti) and they eventually replaced the seat but it took some persistence.
I would just argue that you purchased a high line automobile and you aren't satisfied with the initial quality or lack of durability of the leather. |

Not sure what I am looking for here but the third picture shows a dirt spot and a very muddy seat. Are you saying this in not dirt, and that the leather is wearing away? Did you notice this when you picked up the car 8 months ago?

no isn`t dirt, when i took the picture,i decrease the contrast on my camera in order to have a good contrast on the leather defect, that`s the reason why the seat seems dirt and also i increase the definition. If i set the camera to auto, the seat will look like white, but if you need i can make some picture into auto mode..

Only thing I can see wrong is the spot in the second picture, which looks like a scuff or wear mark. BMW can try and blame you for excessive wear and tear for that and not cover it. However, if the car has not been abused, and that is a result of normal wear and tear, then I would pursue this case with your regional BMW office, and try and avoid the dealer. The only concern I would have if that was my car is that it is only one spot and not the whole seat wearing poorly like that. They can try and blame you for dropping something or scuffing the area.

I don't think it's anything you did. The color is coming off the seats and you're seeing the dark leather underneath. Had it happen to me on a Lexus and one of reasons I usually go with black leather, since it tends to hide these problems better than on lighter color interiors. Should not happen under normal wear and tear. I would however, be carefull with any cleaner, since there is a tendency to use more and rub harder thinking it's dirt and just use a good leather cream. Options are to reskin or dye the defects. Would still push the dealer to cover under waranty and also contact BMW customer service.

It looks like the surface with the dye is worn off in the one spot on the seat (ie, a scuff mark) and the underlying leather is showing, and this may become further aggravated if you keep on rubbing it with a cleaner. On the armrest, I really cannot see anything on the photos. How did you notice the seat scuff mark? If there are no other abnormalities in the seat, then it may be that you inadvertantly scuffed it. My previous car had light colored leather and eventually one could see similar scuff marks, but only after years of use.

I had the same problem on the back and side bolster of the drivers seat, but much worse! It started out small (the size of a quarter), but soon spread like a rash over a couple months. About a square foot ended up fading. Unlike you, I never cleaned my seats with leather cleaner or conditioned them.
I took it to the dealer and they re-wrapped the whole seat with new leather and now I have a brand new drivers seat, new smell and all. They had me wait 3 weeks for the seat leather to come in from Germany. It was all taken care of under warranty. The only advice I can offer is to try another dealer. |

The cleaner you're using might be too aggressive. I only wipe my seats down with a damp micro-fibre cloth every 2 weeks after I vacuum the interior. I apply Meguiars leather conditioner in the spring and fall. 3-4 weeks might be overkill, you're rubbing off the dye. No dealer is going to approve a leather replacement, unless it's cracking prematurely.
