New F11 - Tyres Centre chunk missing?
To cut a long story short I have bought a brand new F11 back in September of last year. I have had the car for just over 6 months. I had the summer tyres that came with the car on for a month, then switched to brand new winter tyres. I have come to take them off today and was horrified to see a channel of very strange wear on all four tyres. This is after only 6000 miles on brand new winter tyres!
[IMG][/IMG] Does anyone know what is causing this? I have a strange ticking noise when turning right but it is so minor I have ignored it until now. I thought the wear may be down to front tyre pressures causing some of the suspension arm to rub but then I cannot explain why this also happens at the back tyres?? Help! I don't want to take this to the dealer yet as I will likely get fobbed off as there is only very minor wear on the summers that I have just put back on. Its all four tyres with various degrees of deepness in the damage. The fronts are the worst with approx. 2-3mm worn down.
A theory - If the car tyres were underinflated and the car had significant load i.e 5 people, a tank of fuel and some luggage, could the upper suspension arm be causing it? This would only effect the fronts though..... |

Pressure could be involved, as can a manufacturing issue. Very unusual, as if it is a softer compound around the middle of the tyre. HighlandPete |

This made me go check mine as I took mine off a few days ago.
I also have an F11. My tires are fine, no uneven wear at all. The upper suspension arm is partly over the tire, but not far enough to make a mark where yours are. In the rear there is nothing that can touch. It may be pressure related, what pressure did you run? |

I have no idea what can be causing it, but can you take a picture in profile of the top of the tire so you can see just how deep the channel is?

Thanks for your responses. The profile of the tyre shows 2-3 mm of channel. This is not the 7mm of tread that is left on the tyre but the unusual wear mark. I can confirm the pressures are absolutely fine (in line with BMW spec for the car) having checked them again. I have spoken to Pirelli and sent pictures. Now the summer tyres are on the car I can confirm no unusual wear on the summer tyres so it has to be the tyres. I intend to send the tyres back to Pirelli for further investigation. I would be interested to know if anyone has been through the procedure before with a tyre manufacturer and what your outcome was?
