Brake pedal issue

Not sure if this issue is an isolated one, had a Google around and not found any other mention of it.

When braking fairly heavily which to be honest is fairly infrequent, I find that when pressing the brake pedal down the tip of my shoe catches on a plastic lip that sticks out of the bulkhead that's fitted on the underside of the dashboard. When doing so instead of the force from my foot being transmitted into the brake pedal it goes into the lower bulkhead. The end result it's that on more than one occasion I've been close to rear ending the car infront.

Quite a dangerous and unwanted predicament. I've had a look at the offending bulkhead and it appears to be properly fitted so I was thinking design issue except that I would have expected to have read about it online.

Anyone else have this issue? I'm only a size 10 shore too so nothing out of the ordinary.

Not read of any mention of a problem with brake pedal interference.

Are you in a manual or auto? I'm in an auto with size 10 shoes (include chunky designs) and never had any contact with anything on the bulkhead.

Pete, as you can see I'm driving an auto. I'm catching the tip of my shoe on the lip highlighted in red. To be honest looking at the photo it's no where near the brake pedal. I'm on my 5th BMW and I've not had this issue before. Possibly I need to adopt a different braking style and lift my foot up and on to the brake pedal rather than keeping my heel in place and swiveling across.

Just looked at mine and its similar, altho a deeper 'tunnel' cutout for the brake lever, but the same lip as such ...

I drive often with walking boots on (Size 44), with chunky soles, but no problems like you describe ...

I also leave my heel in place and rotate my foot but i end up using the ball of my foot to brake, not sure how your managing to hit the trim that far up

Perhaps you need to set your seat a little further back and bring the steering out to you a little further, you might be too close imo

Yeah a change of driving position might help. I'm probably sitting a little closer to the dash than I would normally on account that I struggled to find a position that would allow me to see the full dash binnacle through the steering wheel.

I came from an X5 and I too found it difficult to find a driving position that I was happy with. In the end I found having the seat further back, angled heavily and the backrest straighter than I normally would suited me.

I would start of by putting everything back to the lowest setting, set distance, set height, reset distance, set backrest angle, reset height, reset distance, set steering wheel, reset distance/backseat angle... good luck!
