Video in motion

Good or bad idea? BMW turn it off for a reason so is it worth messing with?

I coded my car so video in motion would work so that passengers could watch but even if you're determined not to watch, as the driver, I found it far too distracting so I coded it back off again.

I wonder what insurance / Police would make of it if you had an accident and found that video in motion was active? Would they have to prove that it was a contributory factor or just assume it was?

What about insurance? I suspect they could duck out as you have altered the car from the manufacturer's specifications without notifying them.

That said, there are companies who charge for activating this so perhaps they've investigated and concluded that it's OK?

I personally think it's a bad idea.

It depends on the driver to start with.
If you are good multi-tasker and a good driver, it does not matter.
Most of my cars has some sort of video input so family members can enjoy video on the move.
Also, it keeps the kids occupied.

In both cases, videos does not interests me if I have already seen it.

However if it is TV or a video which you have not seen, then it can be distracting. In that case, I listen to audio.

Re: Insurance, it will be very difficult for them to prove that you got distracted due to video input unless you are using dashcam. And Video off the dash cam showed no obvious reason of accident and back ground sound is 'BBC News'.

many other options to entertain your passengers, tablets and all...! at least away from your dashboard, otherwise a big distraction in my opinion, can be dangerous in winters and darkness, I find myself checking the screen when a bright cover album come up on display, god help me if it's a movie playing.

I had the full entertainment package in my last X5 with a screen in the rear and wireless headphones. The kids loved to be able to watch movies in the car, whilst my wife and I could listen to some music in the front through the stereo. However the novelty soon wore off and they rarely used it after the first six months of ownership. So haven't bothered coding this function on my current car, tbh can't really fathom how those in the rear could see the screen without leaning forward and I wouldn't want my kids in that sort of seating position as it's dangerous.

What's wrong with some music and good old fashioned family conversation...
