Yea, but it weighs a 1,000 lbs more. That's like saying: Damn that school bus has more horse power than my M5...

It's so lame that they try to market a regular 320d as 328d and a 530d as 535d in the US.

If people judge a car by the number glued on its trunk lid they better don't buy a BMW.

Actual Bi-Turbo *35d makes 313PS and 465 lb/ft. That *30d is not weak by any means, a wonderful machine but it's not a *35d.

Why all that trickery

Nice engine bump. Hm, I actually consisdered buying a 2014 550i for the eight cylinders. I hope they fix that terrible electrical steering. No regrets not buying so far.

I believe they'll be starting production in July Zack. Just curious, why are you jumping from an M3 to a 550i?

I was always a sedan type of person, but wanted to try a coupe to get it out of my system. So decided on an M3. The M3 is a great car but being my daily driver got a little tight and got me into a lot of trouble with law enforcement. So now want to get back to a bigger more luxurious vehicle with some power. I had a 2008 550i m-sport when the LCI came out, so seems like I'm due for the new LCI changes.

Well, just FYI, when I get in my wife's 535 I feel like I don't know where the right side of the car is. 5's are getting big. Good luck with it.

Yeah that 550 will keep the cops away : )

Its so quiet I bet you will have more trouble than the M3 keeping it slow.

And Active Protection for Pedestrians is what? External Airbags? A big hand that pops out of the roof grabs a ped in front lifts him up and puts him down behind the car as it flies along at 100 mph?

Thank you for your continued efforts. The information is very much appreciated.

The first VIN below shows the LCI 550i touring with uprated N63Tu 445-bhp/480-lb.-ft engine (just as the 650i Gran Coupe and 5GT already received last year), good for +45hp / +30 lb-ft torque over the N63 engine.
Just to add to what you said, all 650i models including the coupe and convertible, as well as the 750i, got the N63Tu last year too. So, once the 5 Series LCI arrives, all passenger cars that formerly used the N63 will have been upgraded to the N63Tu. The SAVs will get the new engine when the F15 X5 and F16 X6 arrive. This leaves just a few legacy engines (N43, N52, N53, N54, S65, and original S63) that don't employ Valvetronic throttle operation, and those will all disappear within the next year and a half or so.

Yes, that does appear to be the case. Someone mentioned in another thread that the single-turbo engines were essentially already compatible with our emissions requirements for passenger cars. The twin-turbo versions would presumably have required more R&D in order to be certified for the US. I don't care for the model name changes, but I suppose that was an inevitable marketing tactic.

Yikes... so in theory... 2013 is the last year for the 6 speed in the 550i, except for M5? And 535i?
From what I read above, I think you're right. As a former owner of an E39 540i/6, I know how much of a big deal this loss is. V8 torque mated to that gearbox is just something that has to be experienced.

Guess I'm picking up an LCI F10 M5 before they kill off the 6-speed in that car also.

It was the same with the 335d.... the US version had less hp but the same torque as the euro spec.

I suspect the US version is tuned differently to account for the fact that diesel fuel here tends to have a lower cetane rating than european diesel.

Thats if you can afford 105,000 with the bells and whistles. Not that the 70,000 550i is inexpensive... But man, you are so right, it just had power in all areas of the band... It would have been the car to have with the new steering and other refinements.

RIP 6 speed manual 550i. I hope people miss it so BMW takes notice.

Why would the six speed be phased out on the 550, but not on the 535 I wonder?

Very glad to have gotten a 2013.
