The study is based on thefts entered in the National Crime Information Center database.

BMW shows up in second place with its 3 series, and again sixth place with the 5 Series in the study, which looks at thefts of 2010 to 2012 model year cars across the country.

"Luxury car" categorization is just to show the trickle of activity in this segment. Honda Accord/Civic Toyota Camry/Corrolla still lead overall theft stats by the billions.

M-B's must be easier to steal or something. I always thought they had lower theft ratios, especially back in the day.

256 total 5 series thefts nation wide over a 3 year period, isn't that crazy..
A majority of those are probably from people leaving their keys in their car. Most of them were recovered anyways.
