Why does the Sport tranny shift so early?
I've had my 535 M sport for about 5 months, and I always drive in Sport mode.
I have the sport tranny, but I'm wondering why the tranny always upshifts so early. In normal driving it will upshift at around 4k rpm. Even when putting my foot to the floor, it still upshifts at around 5k rm. The redline is 7k. In manual mode, I can obviously shift when I want, but I would think that in sport mode it would hold the gear longer. Is my car weird? |

It was design to upshift earlier to save on fuel, my car change gear at 3000 on a normal drive.
Also the car have 8 gear so it stays in the power zone even if you upshift earlier as the gear ratio is much closer. The max torque and max power is at 5000 or so rpm, to delay shifting beyond that point put stress on the engine and does not necessarily relates to better performance.

Shifting at 4K under normal driving is not early. Most cars normally shift by 2K to save fuel. If you want it to shift later then you need to floor it more or use manual mode.
