Rich,
any regrets? Silly question I know but I'm still debating 3 or 5 series. Basically with the new 320 ED I can get an almost identically specced 3 for £120 a month less than 520D on a 3 year lease (company car - that number includes lower car tax). Thus just trying to convince myself that
a - auto box on 5 +
b - bigger and quieter (i think) car +
c - more exclusive
is worth that extra £120 a month for 3 years.

Go on tip me over the edge and make my children starve

Well, I would pick the 520d any day of the week. The 5 series is a much more exclusive car with more comfort and less noise. If you at least can save some money for Christmas gifts for your children, pick the 520

plenty of room in the 335

Either the person riding shotgun knees are almost touching the glove box or the back seat passenger's knees are cramped touching the back of the front seat, where they have to put their legs across the entire back seat.

I wanted to get a 335 xdrive sedan, but it looks not a bit roomier than my IS 250.
Just to comment quickly: The 335 versus your IS250 in front/rear roominess: no comparison. I am 6"4 with legs of someone that should be 6'8" and I have never had a problem in my car (335i) with a variety of large guests. When I test drove the 250 and 300/350 early on in my search they were unbearable; I could not even sit up straight in the back without having to kink my head. The e90s have more than enough room. The new audi a4 still sucks for roominess and it grew a fair amount over the old platform. My point: you won't find a roomier vehicle in the same class as the e90.

How comfortable and adjustable are the standard seats? Does it have a lumbar support adjustment? I'm thinking about ordering the multi-contour comfort comfort seats which I enjoyed in my E60, however this is a $1,300 standalone option in the US.

I think so - and my kids like the car as much as I do
As the F10 is new, it is in a different class. The 8 speed auto box is great - very impressive. And is in extremely quiet, apart from the exhaust note. It is MUCH beter than my E60

Well it is a 'sport - normal' button. From what I can understand, it makes the gearchanges more like sport mode, alters the steering and throttle response..
Ask me again when the car is run in and I will be able to tell you properly

You can wonder if a BMW 5 series is the choice here. A extra 120 per month should not be a problem when you buy or lease a car in this segment. If it is a burden then I would stick with the 3/series, you eventually get used to any car you drive. Then again, what the heck ... you only live once. Go for the 5 series, and tell you´re wife that it is MUCH bigger, and MUCH quieter ... You simply need this car .... Solved.

Originally I was after a used E60, 520d SE 2007, 18K miles for £14K, was a very pleasing price. You wouldn't believe, when I was inquiring for the car, the guy next table was just signing the documents to buy the car. But I never knew that the F10 is on its way...

Then I turned to the 320d and had a good offer of £350 a month for a car speced with Business Edition and some extras (totaling some £29,xxx) with a handsome deposit, dealer worked out some massive discount. I was considering to place the order but wanted to do further home work. When searched the BMW site, I realised that the new 5 is on the way.

I had about 3 test drives on the new 530d on the 20th March. My monthly payment for the 520d is just under £100 more a month than the 320d, but I love to see myself in the 5 and I am a family man, so 5 is the one...

Seriously impressed with the 5's finish and standard spec, of course you have to pay for many of these in a 3.

Waiting for my 520d in Sep and mine comes with Pro Nav, Speed Limit, Lumbar Support, Folding Mirrors, 60/40 rear seats, sports auto box/wheel. I badly need to get a bigger wheel, but £650 for an inch feels too much. I've seen a 525d with 17" wheels and looks not bad... so I think I'll live with the 17" wheels

First I wanted the Space Grey, but my wife had second thoughts and later we agreed on Sophisto Grey. My daugter likes the "Space Red" as she thinks there's this "Space" version for every color She is just 4, I could feel her pleased, but there is no 5 comes in Space Red, not even just Red

I know the trouble of maintaining the Beige carpets, but I just love that color and felt roomy than in the 530d with the black interior.

I will post some photos when I get mine, but many of you will have yours by Sept
