Ignition - Accessory switch

I was surprised that my new F10 550i doesn't have an accessory mode with the ignition button. Unlike my E60 550i, if i press the start button without stepping on the brakes, the radio/nav will come on without the dash lighting up. With my F10, pressing the button without stepping on the brakes goes straight to switching on the car, warning lamps light up, fans start blowing, etc. I'm not sure if that would kill the battery if i continue to use the radio that way. Because the car is new, I tend to play with it in the garage but not used to with the fan blowing. I looked at the manual and it did say that it turns on the ignition with the first push without brakes. WTF!?

If I start the engine and shut it off, it will switch to radio mode on but only for 8 minutes

Why would BMW change that sequence?
