Jan 14 530D Auto has Stop Start
Just collected my new 530D Auto on 14 Jan and had a pleasant surprise. It has Stop Start and also has 4 drive settings, Comfort, Sports, Sports Plus and Eco Pro. Brochure makes no mention of this. This car also has the new 530D engine which boasts almost 10% better fuel economy over the 2011 model and more power and torque.

It is all included in the update from September. You basically have the engine from the 530XD now.

Kave is right, the engine now has 258 hp. However if the fuel economy is better I would not now (in theory yes..). The start stop function is great, as long as the outside temp is high enough.

You got the 2012 model which had all these changes. If you ever figure out how this start/stop feature actually works, please let me know. My car does has another set of rules in addition to the ones in the manual and it will even violate the rules in the manual once in a while.
I usually flip my gear shifter to DS so that automatically shuts that feature off. |

Stop Start reply
So far Stop Start is superb. You can also switch on the auto hand brake and when you stop, the engine goes to sleep and hand brake on. Touch the throttle and you go.
Not so sure about the Econo Mode. Done 2 tests so far. Camberley to Heathrow in Comfort mode 52 mpg. Return on Econo and 47 pmg. Ok less traffic on return journey. Blue meter did say I got 8 extra miles on this 23 mile trip. Econo mode you tend to press harder on throttle and car feels under powered. Jury is still out on benefit. |
