Oil level question

So I've done about 3 changes on my 2012 528i and each time I put less and less oil, yet the measurement is still at the max full, what gives? I started with 5.5 quarts, then 5, today I tried 4.5 quarts. Still max. Yes i leave filter and cap open when I drain. Any clues?

I noticed something similar too. Mine has never been less than max which means I am either burning zero oil or the gauge isn't that accurate. I only put in 5qts too last oil change and it's been at max ever since.
