Wheel balancing weights...

What do you think of the old foam being partially left on, wheel scratched and new weight put on top of old foam? Car is less than a year old and this is the first tyre change, so the wheel was as new. There are more scratches under the foam...

working in the tire industry years back it should be fine but if the shop is planning on rebalancing it it's a good idea to remove it especially if it comes up the stick on weights are going to be put back close or on to that location for proper adhesion.

This is how they left it after balancing it. I don't think they should scratch my wheels with a knife taking the old weights off?

i would use a blade to remove the rest of the foam if it's bothering you or if you just want to make it look cleaner. i would however be concerned that the last weight seems like it's pulled up a bit you know what i mean? doesn't look completely flat

Yes I know. I went back and made a fuss and was told that to remove the rest of the foam would mean scratching the wheel - which they already did - ended up walking away, so if the weight comes off I will go elsewhere. Just wanted opinions as I expected it to be perfect and they didn't seem to give a f... Lazy work in my opinion.

This happened to my friends Audi and he complained to head office. They said the weights should have been removed with a plastic tool to stop it scratching the wheel, consequently the tyre fitting company paid to get the inside of his wheels re-spayed.

It's laziness pure and simple.

A plastic tool should be used to remove the bulk of the foam, followed by isopropyl alcohol (or similar) to clean the residue.

Too easy for the muppets to use a screwdriver and wire brush...
