Wondering if anyone has slight blemishes in their paint. On the hood, as best as I can describe, there appear to be four "water droplet marks". They are only noticeable at the right angle and lighting conditions so I didn't see them till the second week I owned the car. However the marks stay after washing and seem to be under the clear coat. It's probably not worth having the hood repainted, but is annoying as I would expect a BMW to be flawless...especially an expensive model like the GT. FYI, I have the Dark Graphite Metallic....maybe blemishes just show more with the darker paint and I wouldn't have noticed on a lighter color?

Should I be concerned?

We have a 2010 7 series & 2011 GT, both cars are fantastic.
Insurance premiums are expensive, I have learnt to enjoy what I own and not worry about them, otherwise what's the point.

Whilst Sirees has an awesomely positive and happy outlook, I say 'hell no!' get BMW to look at it - if it is under the clear coat, then it is a paint fault and BMW should fix it - they will at least tell you how it happened and how to avoid it happening more...

I brought it be the dealership after all. Wanted them to see the spots and at the very least document the issue in case it gets worse. The head service manager said it probably happened at the factory during the base coat layer application. Water droplets from the sprayers sometimes hit the paint and leave a "fish eye" look as he called it. He said it shouldn't get worse as it's under about 8 - 10 millimeters of additional coatings. He also advised against getting it repainted as the paint BMW uses at the factory is a little different than what we can use in the States (environmental reasons).

then have them send you out a new bonnet (hood) from the factory and replace yours - they have to be liable to make it good!

Thanks for giving me a little extra nudge to get this problem resolved Hooplescat. I brought it back to the dealership and they fixed it! It wasn't the "fisheye" problem the service manager originally presumed (he never did look at my hood the first time). He called the spots "Fall Out". Something they see happen when vehicles are sitting at a train depot or shipping dock for a little bit and environmental "fall out" can land on the car and sink into the paint. (still not 100% sure I understand what the fall out is). At any rate, he said it could be taken off with a clay bar. Brought it in yesterday and the spots are gone. Hood looks PERFECT! Very happy.

The clearcoat is pretty tough, but acid rain, bird droppings, etc., can cause it to get pitted, especially if it is left to sit for awhile before cleaning. A clay bar, properly used, can pull a lot of crud out of the clearcoat. Then, a little buff, and it can look like new again. This will not work if it is a deeper defect, in a lower layer of the paint.

Hey Johnny, glad to have helped - sounds like they have looked after you well, and you don't have to put up with those tiny niggles that you know are not important, but annoy you anyway! Glad it's all fixed
