manufacture warranty will end soon

Hi,

My 2012 BMX 528i Xdrive warranty will ending in Dec. this year. My breakpad is never been change before, the car has 36K miles on it, the other day, the break lights on, and then I turned off the engineer, and restarted, and never had light again, but I did schedule a service in the dealer this tomorrow to check everything out. Here is my question about the break pad, do they replace all 4 pads anyway, or just replace what is needed? may be 2 front one? any also the tires is never been replaced, I am thinking to order the continental - contiprocontact SSR 225/55R17-97V run flat, a friend of mine works for continental, he can get 116 for each tire, and then we I got these tires, take to Costco to install them for $10 each. I have never done this, does anyone recommend me to do this? is safe? does the tires will has manufacure warrenty? like how many miles?

Thanks
Frank

First off, BMW will most likely just replace the worn out pads. You can go through your idrive to check which ones need to be replaced. Eventually the sensors will give you the pad warning again because it'll pick up the low pad signal. When you take it in, remember to push them into replacing the rotors as well because that's an expensive diy. Just keep in mind that after your warranty ends, replacing pads and rotors is totally a home diy job so don't worry too much.
There are numerous F10 owners that have replaced their tires with runflats and non runflats so you'll be fine. Go with Costco if they're the cheapest. The tires will have a warranty through the manufacturer and yes, it'll be safe as long as they're good name brand tires (Continental) and Costco should know what they're doing.

Thanks so much Ndinh for your suggestion, I didn't know Rotors is also part of warranty. Can I go through idrive to find both pads and rotors available mileage?

Thanks

No, the idrive won't give you specifics. It'll only tell you which ones need to be replaced (front or rear) but not pads or rotors. Basically, if the sensor light pops up, the pads will have to be replaced. With your mileage, chances are, you won't need the rotors replaced unless they're warped which you'll definitely notice while braking. You can just touch the lip of the rotor and if the lip is heavily indented, they'll need replacing. Brakes and rotors should be covered but only if the car tells the BMW SA that it needs replacing. Otherwise, you can't just tell them to replace them.

With your warranty expiring soon you might want to check out the battery. A low mileage car with its original battery may be due for a replacement. I had mine replaced two weeks before my warranty ended. My Service Manager looked after me even though replacement was questionable. My rear brakes and pads were replaced at my cost. Canadian warranties don't include brakes.
Good luck.

Tell them that the car wouldnt start the other day, and then when you tried again it barely started, and there was a message that said battery low and drive around to charge it. Tell them you did and the message went away

Also tell them the brakes are making a squeaking noise, and they'll replace all four. remember they make money doing this too so they are happy to oblige

Thanks guys for all the inputs. I took the car Yesterday to dealer, before going, I check the idrive, it both indicated 3300 miles to replace front and real brake pads, and the dealer says front brake pad is 10MM and the real brake pad is 6MM, they also they place charger,(don’t know what is that mean?), ran service plan, performed CBS correction on front and real brakes, now when I check idrive, it shows front 25000 miles, and real is 14000 miles, felt bad we drive with care ...so they said Rotors is in good condition, the car has 36000 miles and warranty until end of Dec 2016. They told me they have to send back the pads to BMW, don’t know is it true? Or can I take my car next months to a different BMW dealer? So battery is part of warranty? Anything else I need aware of before warranty is end? Also dealer indicated I need xdrive service? The car only had regular oil changes and field system cleaning. (Forgot what to call).

Dealer said four tires has 3mm, need replace asap, I have a friend who he works for continental company, so contiprocontact ssr 225/55r17-97v is about $116, then i called Costco, they said $10 to install each tire, do I need replace anything else? Like TPMS RBK basic kit 2000K, this is from discounted tire store, is this called sensor? is this part ok?

Does BMW has any extend warranty? is worth it? I am attaching the brake pads, front first and then real.

Thanks all for your advice.

according to idrive, before taking my car to the dealer, it says had 3300 miles left on them, and then dealer readjust it, now idrive shows front 25000 miles, and real is 14000 miles.

So, what you're saying is that they didn't change your pads and just reset your pad settings? That's strange but it does look like you still have some life left on those pads. You should replace the tires for sure. No need to purchase TPMS, they're attached to your wheels so won't be touched. Down the line, if you need pads done, you can definitely do it yourself (I did mine) or take it to an indy shop.

yes, they didn't replace the front and real brake pads, all they did is re calibrate, how much cost to order parts? it is not that fair I drove with care and not replace by dealer, the dealer told me that they will send the replacement pads to BMW, so they can't replace for me. Can I take to different dealer next month give it a try? What about the battery? is it cover by warranty?

Thanks

Frank
