535xi owners: what is your mileage?

After 3300 Km I'm getting 11.7L/100km according to the dash. Pretty disappointing considering the advertised city mileage is 9.xL/100km and I drive 60% hwy.

What are other 535xi owners getting?

About 22.5 US MPG (roughly equals 10.5L/100km).

Mostly city driving.

I drive about 80% city, and average mileage according to the car is 17.5 mpg (13.5 l/100km). About what I was expecting. Not what I was hoping, but what I was expecting. I used to drive in Normal mode, but for the past 2 weeks, I've switched to Sport mode, the average mileage has not changed between the two modes, probably because I am not on the highway enough to take advantage of 7th and 8th gear.

Interesting point.

I find that sport mode RPM's are clearly higher than "normal" RPM. However, going back to a Car & Driver article from the 1990s (I think), you can actually get better gas mileage if you rev the engine and make quick shifts - getting to your intended cruising speed faster - rather than slowly working your way up.

Dunno if that has any relevance.

My mileage has varied between 20 and 23 but hasn't dropped below. Much better than my previous Acura RL (17 MPG), Acura RDX (18.5 MPG), Nissan GT-R (15 MPG), and current Acura MDX (14.4 MPG... ugh).

That's one of the reasons I stayed away from the xi in the first place. The few times a year it would be useful doesn't make up for the constant extra drive train/ gear turning that the engine has to endure plus the extra added weight and hence the poor fuel results. Here in Germany it's been snowing like crazy for the past two months and I get around fine with RWD and all season tires. My 535i with 3,500 mls averages 26.3 on a combine 50/50 city and hwy.

Aren't snow tires required in Germany?

Every car I saw in Munich last week had snow tires...

For Germans I think the law just changed to mandate snow tires, but for service members stationed here all is needed are M+S tires during winter. May have something to do with the SOFA here for us.

After 2000 or so KM on the car, I'm doing around 19mpg - city driving mostly. Not pushing hard at all.

That's exactly what mine gets....26.3 mpg. I have over 5k on the odometer. But drive in the southern US.

Mine's still in the break-in period; it's getting about 21 mpg, mix of city/hwy, but fairly heavy traffic on both.

I find my mileage is good on the highway around 9L/100 (31mpg), but atrocious in the city (downtown toronto, so really slow), where I checked my trip computer on a couple of times to and from work (3km city driving) and the computer read 25L/100km (9.5mpg)!!!

My average with a mix of city/highway is 12L/100km (23.5) over 5000kms, but I generally dont drive too fast.

I'm pretty dissappointed in the fuel economy of this car, as it was one of the reasons I traded my E93 M3 for it. My M3 was averaging around 14.5L/100, and shockingly was probably better in the city than the 535xi even with the thirsty V8 and performance gearing of the 6MT.

What is the typical break in period for the F10? When I had my Lexus, I noticed a significant improvement in fuel mileage after about 3,500 miles.

For what it's worth, my 535i (non-x) get's about 20mpg straight city and 30-33 straight hwy if I'm being responsible. "Normal" city has been about 18. But I only have 1,700 miles on the car so far.

I don't use the on-board computer as my guide, I take my mileage at every fill-up (I have to do a log for tax purposes). On average I fill my tank when I've driven approximately 500kms - sometimes a bit less and sometimes (rarely) as high as 600km. The fill-up typically takes from 48 liters to as high (th highest I've found in my logs) as 57 liters. Usually I'm coming in around 52 liters. For a typical fill-up I show an average of 11.3 km/l overall. My driving mix is about 50/50 city/highway. I currently have 30,000km.

I'm currently at around 3100KM, 90% city driving, around 12L/100KM. Which sounds about right, as I've gotten close to around 500KM per tank and a little over 60L of fill up.

It's not as fuel efficient as I was hoping it would be, considering for the first 3000 KM, I've been driving quite responsibly, and haven't got passed 4K RPM mark.
