LCI 550i Fuel Economy
Is anyone driving a 2014 550i yet? If so, what kind of mileage are you getting? All I've heard is that it gets better mileage than the 2013, despite the extra 45 HP. Mine left Bremerhaven yesterday and I should have it by the EOM, but curious what kind of MPG I can expect.

What did they do different for 2014 for the 550i engine. Is it a totally new engine or is it just a software/turbo tweak to get the extra hp and torque?

2014 has the newer N63Tu engine that has BMW valvetronic (variable valve timing) and likely is running a little more boost to make more power. Plenty of n63tu's on the market in 6er cars but don't know if anyone has measure boost / fuel changed over the previous n63.

I went from a 2011 535i and averaged 20.0 mpg overall. I'm now in a 2013 650i GC and am averaging 17.5 mpg overall so far. So a 12.5% hit. Applying the 12.5% to 16 mpg gets you down to 14mpg. So 13-14 mpg would be an approximation for a 550i in your case.

On a side note ... How are you loving the gc? I've had my eye on that since it came out ... But I had a hard time trying to justify the $110 k price tag to the wife |
