removed neg from battery and now can't open boot

Hi. Guys. So I was finishing up the vial wrap on some interior parts carbon effect. And I decided to do the plastic piece around the base of the steering wheel airbag. I disconnected the battery negative as advised and then closed the boot and went about my way. Put back the airbag and then went to open the boot but could not. .. I was expecting to see a key over ride on the boot somewhere.but no luck... eventually had to remove rear seats to gain access. If there an easier way??? I will post pics of the wrap results tomorrow

Dude.. did you take the physical key out of the key fob and use it on the boot as you would with any old car?

Did the same on my E70 when I removed the battery to charge it. The only way to get the trunk open was to get into the trunk from the cabin and use the manual lever, because as you say there is nowhere to physically insert the key in the trunk from the outside. Pretty sure the F10 is the same

That was a bit silly wasn't it?!

Should have left the boot open really. You'll know for next time. Lesson learned.

No, not at all, I have to do this later this week, so I'm glad I've seen your post first, otherwise it'd be me posting the same thing.

My BAD OP... I personally haven't noticed this foolish design from BMW. Some things should remain as standard. One of those things should be the option to insert a key in the door and the frickin boot. Anyway you have two options:

1.You can hook jumpers up to the terminals in the engine bay... try this first.. get a boost from a neighbor.

2. Strip out the rear seats.

Refer to this thread if you need info on seat removal. Hope this reaches you in time.. before the crow bar comes out.

That's just crazy. Isn't there a simple way to get trunk open if battery is disconnected?

My 07 530i still had a key hole in the trunk. Some things shouldn't change.

The E70 seats folded from the cabin so not an issue, can see how this would be a problem with the F10 whereby the seats fold from the trunk

That would suck if you have an F10 without fold down seats lol.

But seriously, BMW should put the physical key hole under a moveable BMW emblem.

I'm pretty sure that even if they do fold they only fold from levers in the trunk

Can't you just jump the battery to the terminals in the engine bay?
