I have, at last, been able to confirm for certain that my car is a 2012 model year. Yay!!
Also... I posted this on another thread, but maybe worth asking here too... I've registered for the BMW Assist / Connect Drive features on the BMW website (where it asks for the VIN and Registration plate details etc) a few days ago. I haven't had a reply yet, so therefore don't know the connection details (I presume some sort of password is sent?). Obviously I'll share the problem with the dealer tomorrow (but they did ask me to register in advance, so I wonder how much they can influence at delivery time?). I imagine that some of the Assist features, internet, Real Time Traffic Info and remote iPhone operation/viewing of locks, lights, fuel status etc will need this to be completed before operation. How long has it taken for others to register and get a reply? |

It took a few days for me.
You get a text message or two with the details. Nice one forthe model year. I am going to switch to a renewal in march next time as I really fed up of falling foul of this window every time I get a new car. Let me know how the real time traffic works. I get the old traffic over tmc which as everyone know is as good as useless. Enjoy |

Thanks for that, I'll just have to be patient!
Actually, I presume that my assumption is a bit wrong (about the operation of Assist having to wait for the password). Thinking about it, the password presumably only affects the Assist website and the iPhone remote control. Not a big deal for a day or two. On way to get car in a min... it would be foggy, which affects ferries. ...I should be used to it by now! |

Picked up the 520d F10 and drove the 100-odd miles back via the office to the Isle of Wight.
I won't say much this evening, it's been a long day, but brief initial impressions are worth recording... I've been in two minds about handing back the low milage 2008 E60 530i for a (albeit brand new!) 520d F10. I already know that I should not have worried! Allowing for the running-in period, the engine does seem more than adequate and seems very well matched to the 8 speed sports auto. Also, with some relief, I can say that I cannot detect any steering pull that can't be attributed to the road surface. This morning, both on the way up the M3 and on New Forest roads I was careful to "log" in my mind what the E60 felt like in this respect. An hour or two later I was able to do a similar drive in the F10 and I'm happy that both cars feel as stable as one another on the straight. There is a difference in the F10 on corners (slightly more understeer) but it's easy to get used to and I can't see that it will be a problem. Big sigh of relief! Other than that, there are so many new toys, it'll take a while to get to grips with them all, so more later. Summing up, this is one happy guy! ... and I'll post pics this weekend of course! |

Congrats for your new ride !
Picked up my new 2012 520d just the same day ! But I only managed 30 Miles today, so will keep my detailed comments for later on. Coming from E60 520d, I must say the new ride is VERY different : • Interior far more luxurious • So much smoother AND quieter • iDrive and entertainment system WAY faster. • RTTI works great (Europe) • Fuel consumption is down by more than 10% (less than 5.7l/100km in suburban areas) There must be some downsides to this... but I only drove such a short distance: will keep you posted ! |

Nice car...
I have just done the same http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=604831 I hope everyone is enjoying their new cars. It was a big change for me and I am still sore about the model year thing, but it is still a BMW and without reservation a magnificent motor. |

I wouldn't get too worried about the model year thing; it's not that big a deal - as you say it doesn't change the fact that you have a truly excellent car! |
