iPhone 5 and USB

Ok, so I picked up my 14 plate 520d today, and as I kind of expected I can't play music via the usb.

Now I already read through a lot of old threads saying it was hit and miss, but is there a solution anyone has found that works?

I have the normal nav, not the larger screen and there is no speech recognition so I think that means no extended Bluetooth.

I have updated the software already, and tried 3 different cables!

Any pointers anyone?

I have also noticed although the usb play back works fine, more often than not when restarting the car I have to remove and reinsert the usb for it to be identified... Rather annoying!!

That's not a problem I've come up against so I'm guessing it's something unique to your car and / or phone.

Me neither but often it takes a while (more than a minute) to recognise the USB. Other times it seems pretty much instant. Same thing with the satnav. Sometimes "Starting Navigation System" for 30 seconds, sometimes instantly available.

Maybe another bit to add to the list then.. Left it alone this morning and after 25mins still not indexed or loaded.

I guess they will blame the stick size etc...

So I'm getting somewhere here I think... And may post this in the main forum.

Has anyone found a maximum size usb stick they can use?

My original usb was 64gb and that's the one that needs inserting when the car is active, So far the last three days with a 32gb stick in my car reads it fine.

So I wonder is the 32gb Max supported size of usb???

I'm using a 64Gb USB stick and it works fine for me.

It's not full, but it has more than 32Gb of data on it.

If you want to stream from your iPhone over Bluetooth and control what you play through idrive, this works well:

I find the way iTunes stores and displays music not how I want to see it so prefer using the USB drive storing as artist / album / songs.
