Few styling questions black F11 Msport

Guys, I need your help.

Clue me in on do's and don'ts for OEM+ look on the F11 5 series Touring, black, msport, xdrive.

1) Double slatted grilles - yey or nay?
2) 20s on an xdrive msport - will look silly with stock ride height?
2.1) if 19s, which OEM style looks BIGGEST design-wise? The 351Ms look great but 331 looks cool AND fill arches nicely, though not sure if 331s suit Msport style.

Im thinking of donig some tasteful little mods without anything too crazy. The double slatted grille to me looks visually more interesting, but afraid a bit of that poser M5 look on a wagon. Also afraid 20s might be a tad huge for the stock ride height that the Xdrive has, while 19s seem to be a must for summer size wise, 18s look tiny (Touring is quite massive).

Don't be a peasant, get 20s and no, they will not look "silly" with stock M-sport suspension.

Thanks for posting this. I picked up some 20s that are being powder coated now, and was worried about the look at stock height. Looks great on yours

I dunno. The only cosmetic mod I have done is the gloss black dual slat grills and I really don't feel compelled to do any more than that. I really don't care for dark (blacked out) tinted windows although I am thinking about maybe just a slight and even tint all-around, but kind of doubt I even do that.

I think I'd rather have 20's of the same style, but the 19's look great to me too!

So, only things left are front lip, trunk spoiler and rear window spoiler. None seem necessary at this point unless I do decide to go for a different look. But just changing the grills was enough for me, for now. Since I plan on keeping this car for some time, I may down the road go for new wheels and wider stance, and probably spoilers and front lip too, but for now, my baby looks like a sporty sleeper just by adding the grills.

So much you can do with this platform, and really, BMW designers are ahead of the game when you compare the aesthetics of the iterations (plain, m-sport, M5, etc.).

Then again, as you see on this forum, some folks are even more creative and some have tastes that seem to exceed even BWM's designers'. I dunno. I could name names here but I won't, but when I get bored with this look, I think I have plenty of options based on what I see so far!

Dual slats; I have it I love the look compared to singles.

Definitely 20s I have an xdrive with M sports once I changed to 20s I hated the huge gap specially in the front; did a moderate drop all around.

The image in the bottom is before the drop and the top is after the coilovers

Do you have better pics of xdrive on 20s? I want to see a bit more, it doesnt look terrible, but of course a bit insane by the standards of some guys on this forum.

You have stock Msport, I have Xdrive / which means just "stock". Or 10mm higher than Msport if my memory serves.

Your car looks awesome btw, and those are 7 series Msport rims I suppose?

PS. Not a peasant, but I do have the soccermom 5 series eidition, aka the Touring.

Dude I'd give anything to have a F11 in the US. If they had 550 MSport Wagon, I'd already have one. Not soccer mom at all... well not to me! Soccer mom here in the US is Minivan or Tahoe.

Yep, BMW Style 303M's. They're a perfect fit, no spacers or tire size change required. And you're right, xDrive does sit slightly higher, but 20's would still look right at home.

Here it is Audi Q5 or Range Rover but I get your point. I had no idea they dont sell Touring 5 series in the US, this is kinda crazy actually!

I had an E34 Touring w/S50 swap but always thought the E39 540i M Sport touring was the best looking. The F11 is bananas too but the rebirth of the 540i M Sport Touring...

Probably economics. Not enough sales to justify the money crash-testing each variant...

Mercedes does pretty good with E Series Touring and I've continued to wonder why BMW doesn't follow suit any longer. The E60 Touring was hideous but the F11 was glorious!

How many engine/transmission variants does MB have? I really don't know... Each combo must be tested; so if a manual is offered with each engine that would be 8 tests.

I've only seen the E350/E550 and E63 AMG in touring here in the US. I don't think any come in a manual.

I understand it was much simpler than that. 1) BMW made a mistake and built 5GT. 2) They looked at markets where they can sell them - and that aint Europe or Asia, but US is big enough and might be the fit 3) you want to make it successful so you fore americans buy it by removing the F11 Touring option under some guise and promote GT instead. They flopped. I dunno if you will get the G31 but I hope you will. Tourings are just a way to go if you dont want to sit in an X5-X6. Thought X6 is a pretty sweet car I gotta say. Kinda perfect driving position from many cars I tried.

And back on topic, I have settled on buying the double slats kidney grille but with chrome surround and black matte slats. Simple and classy.

Installed the double slats grilles. Looks ok but I think on a black car more contrast is needed. Will run like this for a while, see how I like it. In winter mode with 18s its not exactly looks Im going after anyway.

They look great, where did you buy them? I have been looking for a pair at a reasonable price.
